Question: What is the difference between engineering and engineering technician? I was looking at college majors and one said engineering general and another said engineering technician. What is the difference?
Answer: I work for one of the World's largest EPC Companies. We have both Engineers and Field Engineers. Most of what the others have said is true and some sound more like pencil pushers tooting their little horns. As for my Company the Field Engineer is considered the client to Engineering, basically their designing for the FE to install, start-up and operate. The intent is a high quality design that fits and works first time, obviously much to some of their surprise, Engineers are also human and errors in design are common
I'm a Lead Field Engineer,,, Obviously, I work in the field, this is where it all comes together. Technically, I'm the Engineer in the field. I oversee the installation of varies systems and at times I've had +250 people working directly for me. My responsibilities varies from spending countless hours on the phone with Engineers reviewing their design, interpreting design (the 2D to 3D transition can sometimes be very screwy, for some reason Engineers seem to have a hard time with this, the "Paper to Reality Paradox"), resolving conflicts between design disciplines (for some reason these Engineers seat across from one another and don't even speak), issue design changes (the Engineering Dah Factor), perform constructability reviews, manage manhours, deal with labor issues, schedule issues, weather, system start-up, vendors, so on so forth.
As for pay,,, I fall pretty much inline with the Engineers, some make more others make less. It all depends on years of service.
There's several factors you need to look at
1. What type of person are you? Hands on or off?
I'm a hands on guy, I want to be in the field where it all comes together, I'll let the offices guys do all the calcs, Cad, and paper stuff (boring if you ask me)
2. The Company you work for definitely has a bearing on your pay. Some value the field guys, some value the Engineer and others value both.
3. Depends on you,,,what type of person are you? A go getter done type, a follower, a hider or just plain lost. Trust me this has a major impact on your future, you can either ride the system and acheive the minimal or take the system by the hand and twist it for max.
Now the choice is totally up to you.... Which path to take.
Engineering definitely more indepth studies and beleive me I've met some great Engineers, guys who really know their stuff and design what was thought to be impossible. Future problem... Outsourceing,, more and more companies are outsourcing their engineering to India, China, etc.
Tech Engineer, allot less indepth study, more of a broader range of abilities when it comes to the hands on installation. I've worked with some of the best in this field. And we have built the impossible designs. Definitely can't outsource this job if built in the US.
Good Luck
Question: how do you become an aerospace engineering technician or a nuclear technician? none of the websites are very specific as to what kind of education is required to become an aerospace engineering technician or nuclear technician. some sites say an associates degree at a community college, but don't specify any programs or anything like that. can anyone help me?
Answer: An associates degree is usually not enough education for either of those career choices; they are specialized fields and require at least a four year degree from a college.
There are technical schools which will give you a degree in two years that will qualify you with the training required to work in those fields as a repairman - IE a repair or operating technician. This is specialized training that doesn't teach you much besides just that though.
If you are interested in being a nuclear technician there is a very good option that you might have not even thought of - the US Navy Nuclear Power program. If you qualify they will school you at their expense in exchange for six years employment - and if you choose to separate from the service then you can get a job at any nuclear plant with no problems at all.
Question: What is and electrical and electronic engineering technician ? OK at my school we have a class called career orientation (CO) and what im wanting to be when im older is the ppl who like do the lights and desgn them for concers and stuff and my teacher said she thinks it ia an electrical and electronic engineering technician. Is this right ? if not what is it called
Answer: Electrician. It's a trade. But to design them you'll need at least an industrial design degree or have lots (years) of electrical experience in the entertainment industry.
Some words of advice: When in the context of your career use a spell checker and work on your punctuation. Don't write "like". It's an annoying filler word to read.
Question: What is Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, and Mechanical Engineering Technician? Basically, I'm wondering if someone could explain, distinguish, and tell the similarities and differences between Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, and Mechanical Engineering Technician? This answer can as long as it needs to be. For those who are thinking about answering this question don't feel over whelmed. It's more of an inquiry than anything. This would help me out a lot. Thanks
Answer: mechanical engineering divided into 3 departments
production
Vachel's
power
production department studies mainly in design production Equipment.
such as dies, bearings, gears, mechanisms, machines parts as-simpling,hook joints, all machining process such as milling &wilding....,all casting procedures such as centrifugal and continuous and fer as alloys Fever Assad non fer *** or metal and non metal materials and its treatment.
Vachel's mainly in design Vachel's equipments.
power mainly studies in A/C & boilers and pumps for all fluids .
Question: One of the tasks of an engineering technician is to collect data. ? One of the tasks of an engineering technician is to collect data. Which of the following is good
concerning data collection?
A. Always try to record data with a computerized monitoring system.
B. Record as much data as possible, even if it’s not needed for your project.
C. Know what the data is going to be used for before you begin collecting it.
D. Computerized and visual data collection are interchangeable for data collection projects.
Answer: C
collecting data is necessary when you want to conclude consequences based on these data, that is why you have to determine in advance which data to collect
there are scientific methods for data collecting and designing experiments
DoE (Design of Experiments) uses also statistical methods
Question: Difference between Engineer and Engineering Technician? What is the difference between an engineer and engineering technician?
What types of things does an engineer do that a technician doesn't and vice versa?
Answer: The answer is that Engineers do conceptual work, and Technicians in the development environment do the grunt work.
An Engineer does not need a degree, with some exceptions such as P.E. in Civil engineering.
In electronics I have worked with both those with a degree and those without. I have seen engineers with a BS, or MS, or PHD create nightmares and I know several very competent individuals with just an A.S.
Question: What is a typical day for civil or electrical/electronics engineering technician? I am going to school for engineering just not sure exactley what field of engineering I should pursue. I have it narrowed down to electrical/electronices engineering tech or civil engineering tech. I was hoping somebody could tell me what a day in the life of a engineering tech is like?
Answer: rebuilding power supplies.
replacing motors.
minor board repairs.
I don't know about civil engineering, but I was an electro-mechanical tech for a couple years before I went into computers.
Question: Is it a good decision to study Machenical engineering technician in Manufacturing? WHich is better option? Electronics engineering technitian or Machenical engineering technician? The future of them?
Answer: It's hard to tell the future of any profession. My advice is that you should chose the one with you feel happier. In my case, I studied Mechanical engineering, in the beginning I used to work with manufacturing (I mean something more like Industrial Engineering) and now I work with Aeronautical engineering.
Once you have the Mechanical engineering background, it is possible for you to work in many different areas...
Unfortunately, I can't tell you about Electronics engineering, because I have no background in the area.
Hope I've helped on something!
Question: What is the pay range for a Biomedical Engineering Technician? What is it that you exactly do in this field?? Is it worth going into this field?
Answer: They pay on a Thursday or Friday.
