Question: How can I best prepare for an aptitude test, that is work related? A paper plant wants me to do an aptitude test with 5 questions each section: A) verbal B) numerical C) abstract D) spacial E) mechanical. How should I study best each area? I have an electrical technologist diploma, but the job is production.....any ideas?
Answer: Get a good night sleep before you take the test.
It will include fractions!!!!
There is nothing to fear, these tests are not that hard.
Question: How should I go about becoming an electrician? I am 16 years old, in gr. 11. I have known for a while now I would like to become one. The councilor at my school said I have 2 options, going to college, taking a 3 year electrical engineering technologist program or a 12 week electrician program. She recommended I take the 3 year program but I am not really sure. What would you recommend? What classes should I take in gr. 12 for a good chance to get in? Thanks.
Answer: There are different types. Inside Wireman suggests lots of math, mechanical drawing. College is always better than training, if you have the money. good luck..
Question: Electrical Engineer vs Electronic Engineering Technician? is a Electrical Engineer just a 4 yr bachelor degree? and a Electronic Engineer technician a 2 yr associates degree?
So if a Electronic engineer technician takes 2 more years and gets a bachelor he is a Electrical Engineer?
or are they completely different?
i wish to be a 4 yr Electrical Engineer
there is only a program called Electronic Engineering Technology which is a associate in applied science degree.
at this school i wish to go to.
which can transfer to a 4 year college and attain a Baccalaureate degree and continue in a customized certificate program to complete the necessary requirements for admission to an engineering technologist 4 yr program.
is there a Difference between Electrical Engineer 4 yr bachelor degree and a Engineering technologist bachelor degree
is BS-ET bachelor in Engineering Technology?
and is that the same thing as a Electrical Engineer?
i appreciate the comments and its really shedding some light on this subject.
I however have a giant imagination and have day dreamed through class my entire life between riding and working on airplanes to being in cars and working on them.... I would often be trapped in my own world and when id come to it felt like waking up in the class room even tho i wasnt even asleep or even put my head down......
So it really sounds more like to me that id be the Theoretical engineer designing and building.
i was really hoping to share ideas and brain storm and come up with things to help and make modern life easier.... it enjoy coming up with ideas all the time wether bad or good
So my question is..... If i get a EET in associates degree and i move to a 4 year college can i still take those 2 years to Specialize in Electrical Engineering? and have a bachelor degree in electrical engineering?
Answer: If you are the creative theoretical type, don't waste your time on a 2 year associate degree in anything. You will be miserable. You will end up doing routine work that the engineers don't want to waste their time on.
Get the BSEE or, at least a BSET 4 year degree. However, an EEE degree is not an easy degree to get. You will have to work hard in order to obtain it. Put the daydreaming aside for now and focus, focus, focus on getting that degree. You will be very glad in the long run that you did. OK, most engineers these days are experts of one sort are another on digital systems but very few engineers are getting a solid background in analog systems and devices. It's becoming a lost art especially in microwave communications. Also, the world is going to nanotechnology (very powerful science), get as much classical physics, quantum physics, and advanced mathematics as you can handle. It will pay off big time for you in the not so distant future.
If you're the really creative problem solving type, don't limit your self to just a BS degree or to just the engineering field, cross specialize in say electrical engineering and molecular biology or in cosmology. Doing that will give you a big edge on the competition.

Question: Saving money on high voltage amplifier? Ideas please? Hi,
Can you guys please suggest some alternatives for an amplifier? - saving money is my most important criteria. Obviously, i will have to ask a electrical technician/ technologist as well, but can you please give me some ideas to approach them with.
I am in the process of building a simple electronic device to produce sound. I am trying to save as much money as possible.
I am using a piezoelectric ceramic disc as a transducer. This probably won't cost me more that $100, even from a good company.
The other part of this device is an amplifier. From what i understand at the moment about piezo, i should be able to use a simple linear amplifier - still have to check this to be sure. I understand that by not using a high quality amplifier specially designed for piezo, i may experience some noise and distortion near maximum output, however in the case of the device i am building this is acceptable. By avoiding a purpose built lab amp, i should save a lot of money (thousands).
I understand that the piezo discs may require 200volt, 500volt or maybe a different power level to drive them, and i am searching for some alternative amplifiers. Also, I will assume the piezoceramic disc i use will be under 200 watt. A cheap linear amplifier like a standard audio amplifier (like on my stereo at home, or even a professional audio amplifier) has relatively low voltage rating, and is designed to drive 8 ohm speakers (although they can drive speakers with higher electrical resistance), so in most cases i don't think it will be very useful with the piezo.
Ideas could include 12 volt dc options, as i know that siren amplifiers for emergency vehicles are obviously 12 volt, operate at 60 volt output, and have a relatively high power output of 100 watt.
But what i am really looking for is some ideas, on how the technician/technologist can build a relatively cheap amplifier circuit for me from scratch. Alternatively, maybe you can suggest where they could buy some inexpensive prebuilt amplifier circuits, in a variety of high voltages which could drive the piezo. Maybe they could adapt siren drivers from burglar alarms, or some other option, these things i know are "as cheap as chips" and in most cases the circuit can probably be bought for under $50.
Again, sound quality is not a concern, so just any suggestions on how i can reach the voltage and power level required, as cheaply as possible please. I definitely want to avoid a situation where i would have to waste a lot of money on a scientific laboratory amplifier, which is purpose build to be highly accurate, with very high sound quality. This would be a huge waste of money, considering my application.
Answer: One way would be to use a conventional amplifier designed for 4 or 8 Ohm speakers and an Audio Transformer to match your Piezo device. This kind of transformer is used in large audio systems.
See http://www.ticcorp.com/70v_guide.htm
You would use one of these transformers backwards by connecting your amplifier to the 8 Ohm side and your Piezo to the high voltage side.
Question: I am indian national. Can i get 457 Temp visa? I have been offered 125K by Australian emplpoyer as Senior Electrical Draftperson. I have 10+ yrs exp. in electrical design & drafting. My employer has arranged Migration agent to process my 457 Visa? Anyone can tell my employer will get sponsorship approval for this position (Electrial engineering technologist) can i get 457 Temp visa?
Answer: Each case is individual and you have not given us much information to go on.
If you say your potential employer sponsor is wanting to pay you AUD$125,000 and has gone to a lot of trouble to do what is required, then I would say most likely.

Question: Just relocated to Canada and would like to be educated here.Which profession is most wanted in West Canada? Most things in my live has been changed. I 've been graduated in Russia 11 years ago as an electrical engineer , but a lot of time didn't work on this position and it seems lost qualification , but every time i think to change work . Now i want to get new profession in Canada and change my life. I'd like to get education and get at least Bachelor degree. But i have no idea which profession should i change ?(AREA: Physics, mathematics, technics) . I thinking now about
1.electrical engineering (technician, technologist)
2.geologist
3.geophisicist
4.electronics technologist
which profession most wanted and easy to find job after education?
Thank you.
Answer: It would seem to me that your best bet would be to requalify as an electrical engineer. You could almost certainly get at least some credit for the university courses you took in Russia and obviously the math is going to be no problem for you. At the end you will have a high-prestige and much sought after degree. If you want to shop around for a programme the site www.aucc.ca is the best way in and has a searchable database.
Good luck.

Question: Web sites for Mec engineering? Am a 1st year std of MEC ENG but would like to know of any Web sites that can help me research on Eng mechanics(statics & dynamics),Eng maths 1,Electrical eng 4 mechanical engineers,Eng drawing & also communication skills 4 technologists. Our lectuerers feel like they are on top of the world.Pliz help.
Answer: I am an ME. Get used to some of the profs seeming/acting on top of the world. It will feel like that off and on for the next 4 years. This is exactly why engineering has such a high attrition. Many realize that every other major on campus isn't as difficult. This is also why, however, engineers make more money than everyone else after only a four year degree.
Anywho, your textbooks will probably be your best source but I would just searchthe web for the various topics that you find difficult as you go. Various professors have pages on various topics. For general engineering info though, try...

Question: What career path should I choose??? Ok, here's the situation: I could go to a community college that is across town, taking classes in Electronics (a field that I have taken classes in before and I am familiar with). From what i hear, jobs after taking these courses would land me at TXU, ONCOR, or some other electrical delivery company. However, it takes 2 hours and 30 minutes to get to this school.
I could also go to a different community college. It is only 30 minutes away. I would most likely get an Associates in Applied Sciences Degree for Radiologic Sciences. I could use this to become a Radiation Technologist or , if I choose, a future Radiologists.
Which should I choose and why????
Answer: Well, I don't think that's our decision, you need to think and make a choice. Some questions to think about:
Which do you like to do better? Electronics or Radiation science?
Would you commute to both? 2.5 hours is a significant commute. Especially if you have an early class.
Have you visited the campuses? Did you like either better? It does make a difference, even if you are commuting.
My other suggestion would be to find some people who attend those schools and talk to them about the programs and whether they are good.
