Question: I am a Drilling Engineer and just got Canadian Resid Visa. Where is the best place to live and work in Canada? I have 8 years experience in Drlg Engineering. What city must I decide to reside with my family to ensure I enjoy a better Schooling, Accomodation/Housing and community life in Canada. What can we do inorder to settle down to a good life in Canada?
Answer: alberta would be the best place for you and your family to live,
you can get a good job in the oil industry.

just note that the winters can be very cold and harsh
Question: in order to work as a drilling engineer in Canada, does one have to be a P.Eng.?
Joanne, I'm asking about a job of a drilling engineer for an operating oil company.
Answer: Process engineer?
Not sure what type of engineering your doing???Mud,completeions etc...i can find out im on a platform just now and some canadians here.
Question: Subsea Pipeline Engineer OR Drilling Engineer? Between these two, which one is better in terms of career prospect?
Also, which profession between the two gets better salary??
Thank You.
Answer: These are highly specialized jobs and very limiting in term of options for employment.
A drilling engineer can work anywhere there is oil and gas activity but a subsea pipeline engineer can only work on offshore projects.
Question: I would like to become a MUD Engineer on a land-based drilling site. How should I begin to pursue this career? Where can I recieve the right training and get my foot in the door ?
Answer: It depends what country you live in. Here in Canada, most go to school for that, but I do know there are some companies that will hire you as a consultant with training and some will put you through the necessary courses required. I would begin searching oilfield environmental companies, I'm sure you will find something there. Some will start you out as an environmental consultant, and you work your way into the mud end of things. The only drawback is that it can be a little pricey getting started. You need a dependable vehicle, a laptop as well as a means of generating power to it in your vehicle, a printer/fax, cellphone and an internet aircard.
Question: how can i become a professional drilling engineer?
Answer: Go out to the oil patch and cut your teeth as a roustabout for starters.
Question: where could i find jobs for drilling fluid engineer with a good pay?
Answer: Try this link: http://www.rigzone.com/jobs/search_job_results.asp?JobCategory=8
Otherwise, simply do a google search on "oilfield jobs".
The utilization rate of jack-ups in the US Gulf of Mexico is nearly at capacity. The "boneyard" (where unused jack-ups are stored) located 5 miles offshore of Cameron, LA. is now virtually void of any jack-ups. Same goes for the lift boats that work in the shallow waters. Drilling is UP and there is a high demand in your field of expertise, world-wide.
Question: what will drilling engineer do if oil is depleted?
Answer: I wouldn't worry about it for the rest of this century. However, there's geothermal energy, which seems to be a burgeoning field.
Question: What are the best countries for oil engineer jobs? I know times are extremely tough right now..
But where are the best oil engineer/drilling manager jobs located at currently?
For someone with 30 years experience.
And was once a VP of a petroleum company.
This isn't me obviously, but am just curious....where the best countries are for this type of job right now?
Thanks.

I'm a Drilling Fluids Engineer, looking to emigrate to somewhere with friendlier people, taxes and weather. As far as I can make out Australia fits the bill. Question: Better Career Opition- as in salary. Building Surveyor or a Drilling Engineer (oil & gas)? Going to college soon, and i can't deciede between the two courses, which regard the two careers i mentioned. Thanks.
Answer: I think Drilling engineer.
But do you mean like you would be working on the oil brigs and all that?
^That entails that you would be away from home for a long time (like 6 weeks away, 6 weeks back)
and all that.
However, I still think anything to do with oil would pay more, as it is alot more dangerous.
Question: Do Drilling engineers get laid off or is it a fairly secure position in the oil field?
Answer: I think it would matter where you are located or willing to locate... there are certain parts of the globe where work in this area is pretty steady... I know there is lots of opportunity in the North Sea, for instance. It would also depend if you are a contract employee or a direct employee of a company.
Drilling Engineer Occupational Outlook
The number of jobs for petroleum engineers is declining in the U.S., but U.S. firms will be hiring for work in other countries and projections indicate that there will be a small number of graduates in this field, so prospects are good. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (www.bls.gov), salaries range from $57,960 to over $145,000, with the median being about $98,000. The starting salary in 2007 for new petroleum engineering graduates was around $60,000. (Source: National Association of Colleges and Employers)

Question: Hello, what courses should i take to work as a planning Engineer? I am a Mechanical Engineer by qualification and have been working in the Middle East for the past 5 years in Sales of Oilfield supplies.I have sold Industrial material to major drilling companies but now i would like to switch careers and work as a planning Engineer.I have no prior experience in Planning..I would like to work as a Planning Engineer for pipeline and construction contracts but do not know from where to start..And leads?
Answer: Planning is a logic sequence of activities required to complete any task, therefore for construction all you require is knowing the various activities from start to end, then you list these activities and link them based on which activity depends on other activities along with duration of each activity, by doing so you will end up having the critical path.
Planning require that you start on site training with an experienced planning engineer and to learn how to use the different planning soft ware like priemavera, but such that you work on site for a while to be aware of the work sequence and practical duration of each activity, then you will confidently take the role of a planning engineer .
Good luck
Question: drilling thru a gable truss? what do inspectors think about drilling thru an engineered gable truss? i need to get a 14-2 cable under the peak of my gable for a security light. the hole will only be a 1-2 hole. it has to go thru the truss in order for it to be centered.
Answer: The International Residential Code states quite clearly that any modification to ANY type of truss is not allowed!
Any damage or modification will require a repair designed by the truss manufacturer, or an architect or structural engineer.
It may not seem like a gable truss is that big of a deal, but whether or not I agree with a Code Requirement, I am not allowed to disregard it.
Mount the light (in a weather-tight box, using approved and listed fittings) a little below the peak.
