Question: ya think an interior designer would like a draftsperson? Do you think that interior designers would be interested in someone who could create layouts and 3d presentations to clients? If so, as a computer drafter.. how could I approach someone with a freelance work-from-home style proposal?
Thanks ahead of time for your answers to this question! : ) : )
Answer: You should put together a portfolio of your work and start making sales calls on the designers. Be prepared for a lot of rejection but when you do get a client provide exceptional customer service.
You should also attend/join business association meetings or events for networking purposes. Do some research and find relevant organizations or events in your area.

Question: What is a csu draftsperson?
Answer: all I can find on Google are employment listings with CSU in front of them. Many of those jobs are in Canada, so maybe that's what the "C" is for.

Question: Plans for Compressed Earth Block Press? There are many commercially availiable earth block press machines for sale. I want to make - and maybe improve if I can, on a current design so that I can produce blueprints for free distribution. Are there any sites/plans out there to get me started on making a prototype. I am a draftsperson in California. My goal is to make a full set of plans for an easily made CEB press to post online for anyone - in any country - to download for free and make their own press.
The web actually has no sets of plans you can download for free. Even portions of plans I have seen have no measurements to allow someone to fabricate one. My intention was to try to find a working set of plans, that had no patent and draw them properly (I have years of CAD drafting experiance) and get them online so that people could build the presses with basic workshop tools.
Answer: Not sure what the problem is. They all work about the same way, and there are many innovators out there making their own version. The Cinva Ram is very widely known.
I did an internet search on "rammed earth block press" and got 113,000 hits.
Question: Does this sentence make sense? Additionally, the area will be useful for faster communication between engineers and draftspersons because it is located adjacent to the Engineering Department. This reduces the time of walking up/down the stairs to communicate with them.
I think the last part is messed up. How can I correct it?
Answer: The new proximity between the draftspersons and engineering departments will enable swifter communication between them.
Question: What people do for a career...? I have had alot of strange reactions when I tell people what I do for a living..... I would like you to imagine the situation...
Your single, in a night club or out some where and a bloke (or woman) comes up to you. You start talking just general conversation when you ask..."So, what do you do for a living?"
They answer "I'm a draftsperson"
***A draftsperson is a person who draws sketches, plans, or designs. EG: house design, mechanical design, landscape design etc.***
My question is:
How would you react to this answer?
What would you be thinking when someone tells you "I'm a draftsperson"?
Would you try and change the topic quickly or would you genuinely be interesting in hearing about the details of his or her work?
Does being a draftsperson even sound like interesting work?
Do you get a stereotypical view of the person as being "a nerd" or "geek"?
If you are a draftsperson... what do you honestly think of your job?
The answers you give will be going into my report for TAFE (education purposes).
Thankyou for your help.
Answer: Dan, I will copy and paste - it might be easier fo your purposes.
You should also be aware that different age groups will have entirely different responses to these questions.
A twenty year old girl would NOT feel the same way I do about draftspersons.
How would you react to this answer?
With interest, curiosity and questions.
What would you be thinking when someone tells you "I'm a draftsperson"?
Cool, I don't know any draftspersons.
Would you try and change the topic quickly or would you genuinely be interesting in hearing about the details of his or her work?
Genuinely interested.
Does being a draftsperson even sound like interesting work?
Yes and no, I would think it could become tedious (but then even the most exciting careers are repetitive aren't they?) after thirty years.
Do you get a stereotypical view of the person as being "a nerd" or "geek"?
No, not at all. I would think him serious but creative.
If you are a draftsperson... what do you honestly think of your job?
Nope, can't help you on this one.
Don't you just hate the TAFE communications subjects??
Question: CAD / CAM career path? I am a Master's student in a field not relevant to CAD/CAM. But I now feel CAD shoud be field I should be in. But I was not sure of the career path in ths field, still not devating from the CAD. Will I able to have a career path, like an Engineer has? Will I be paid equal to an Engineer with same amount of experience as me (draftsperson)?
Answer: You could look at a career as a mechanical design engineer.
Quite often draughters can progress into this role. A mechanical engineering qualification is usually required. This
can be gained via additional study.
In this role you get to design components /assemblies using 3D solid modeling CAD software.
If you work for yourself or as part of a small team you will probably have to generate the 2D drawings of your own 3D designs.
If you work as a design engineer in a larger team, other draughters may generate the 2D detailed drawings of your designs.
You should get payed an engineers rate
Question: Uni course question....? I would like to know what kind of course I need to complete to become an Electrical Designer or Draftsperson?

Thanks for your answers!!
Answer: Not sure which one exactly but in the IT/Engineering section is the one you want... these maybe

Question: Potential Job stringing me along way too long, what would you do? I moved to a Washington in June and had a job lined up ahead of time. I started working the day after I moved, but learned quickly that I hated my job. I started looking for another job in September. During my search, I was surprised to receive an email from a job I had applied for back in May. They said that they never filled the position and wanted to know if I was interested. I should say I am an interior designer and the position they mentioned was an Associate Designer position. I told them I am very interested, and we set up an interview. Before the interview I was asked to take an online personality test. I felt this was very strange, but did it knowing how much I needed something new. The interview went extremely well, and I left feeling very confident that I would have the job. My husband is working, so I took a risk and gave my notice where I was working because I was being treated so poorly. The potential job called me again, for another interview. This one did not go as well. They still seemed very excited, but were asking the same questions as the first interview and the job description began to change from an Associate Designer to a 'draftsperson'. They also had me take yet another personality test, and sent me home with their software so that I could train myself, unpaid. They told me to call them in 2 weeks. Of course, at this point I have started applying to other jobs, with very little to no luck.
The 2 weeks passed, and I called the firm. They set up yet another meeting with me. This meeting was overwhelming and stressful. They told me they were interested in part time or contract work- still no mention of what the compensation would be- with no benefits. The position has now become 'grunt worker' They asked me to present them with an outline by tomorrow (the meeting was yesterday), basically outlining the benefit that I can be to the firm. The boss says "I know this is my job, but I'm delegating". YES, it is your job. I don't know your firm, so I can only tell you that I'll do a good job and do the best that I can. This is a decision THEY have to make. I am so stressed out and don't even know how to begin this outline. He was talking about me including things like training procedures and procedures for their overall work strategy.
What would you do? I'm so desperate for a job, but I'm also tempted to tell them off. Oh, and the designer there is SO nice. I just love her and would have so much fun working with her. It's the boss I want to kill.
I know it was stupid to quit before I had a new job. I even knew it at the time, but I was being treated so poorly, that I would take breaks to sit in the stairwell and cry. Just not worth it.
Answer: Well, I understand needing a job badly. I also know what it's like to take something out of desperation. This puts you in a bad position from day one, and they'll make you their.... Well you know.
Besides, I'd be most concerned about the financial stability of the company. From what you've described, this company sounds poorly managed and financially unstable. It may be more trouble than it's worth.
You have to decide whether you need to get your foot in the door to this industry or whether this job is going to make you miserable. By getting a job there and staying for six months, do you think you can (a) find another design job more easily and (b) remain sane and perform well. If yes, then do it; if no, then turn it down. You work with a whole office, not one person. The boss might make this job too risky.
Question: What do I want to be? (Drafting)? I like drawing floorplans for houses and something I really find fun is making houses in the Sims games.
Now what I was thinking is, because I love drawing and making floorplans, I dont know if I want to be a draftsperson or something. (Not sure what that kind of career is called)
Iam not sure. I know there is a Associates degree at my school for Engineering: Drafting Tech, but Iam not sure if that is what I want.
What do you think?
PS: Also Ive been looking at ITT Tech School of Drafting and Design.
Answer: thats exactly what i want to do, im going into architecture

Answer: You might try buying a press; disassembling it, measure the individual parts and then draft the components into a set of drawings.
You can also go to the Patent Office in Washington, DC and review the files for previously patented presses and you can find ones that have expired.
Or you could find a current press manufacturer and become a distributor.
I've lived in a number of third world countries were block presses are used on a regular basis and they are an income producing trade. The press is considered a capital asset and giving them away would be frowned on.
