Question: Difference between Construction and Civil Engineer? Could someone please tell me the main difference between a Civil Engineer and a Construction Engineer.
Also which discipline has the best job out look, better starting salary, which one has the most potential for making the most money in the long run, and which is most in demand?
Answer: Civil engineers tell construction people what to do. I've worked in construction for about 10 years and have consulted with all types of engineers on various projects. I went to school for my engineering degree and graduated last year and am a couple years away from getting my license. Civil engineers (depending on what field they are in) design and spec out critical sections, road ways, soil structures, steel members, etc.... They deal with the loads involved in a project and they design for a specified life span with the predetermined conditions and usage. There is a lot of math involved with engineering, so if your not so good at it, then i'd advise you to pick a different major. A construction person takes the approved building plans and maps out a schedule and cost estimate for a project. It's like reading a set of instructions, they just need to figure what to do and in what order to complete the project in the allotted time and budget.
Right now, depending in what market you are in, a civil engineer typically makes more starting off and makes more in the long run. With the construction industry being as slow as it is right now, neither field has much work available, but in the long run construction would not be possible without engineers. Engineers are more in demand since there are so few people in the US that actually put in the effort to become an engineer. It is not an easy thing to accomplish, it takes years of hard work and on top of that, you need to pass the licensing exam which is a bear in its self.
Question: What does a Construction Engineer do, How is his workday? please answer? I wanna know how construction enginners work and what they do. do they desig or just plan or what ?
Answer: Hope this helps...
Construction engineering concerns the planning and management of the construction of structures such as highways, bridges, airports, railroads, buildings, dams, and reservoirs. Construction of such projects requires knowledge of engineering and management principles and business procedures, economics, and human behavior. Construction engineers engage in the design of structures temporary, cost estimating, planning and scheduling, materials procurement, selection of equipment, and cost control.
Construction Engineering is differentiated from Construction Management from the standpoint of the use of math, science, and engineering to analyze problems and design a construction process. Construction engineers build many of the things that people use everyday. Construction engineering involves many aspects of construction including: commercial, residential, bridges, airports, tunnels, and dams. It is an extremely large industry that provides jobs to many and continues to grow. Currently there are nearly 6 million people working on construction in the United States (http://www.ndsu.edu/ndsu/academic/factsheets/eng_arch/consteng.shtml). Construction engineers are in high demand so it easy for a CE to get a job in any part of the country.
Question: What is the the correct terminology for a construction engineer. I am tryin build a subdivision need engineer? I am also in need of a point in the right direction of accquring the qualifications
Answer: maybe what you are looking for is a civil engineer
Question: How often will a Civil Engineer be on the construction site? Considering the Civil engineer is working on transportation or structure how often would the engineer(s) be at the site?
I am strongly considering a Civil Engineer degree and would like to know about this. What type of engineer jobs would be available for new Civil engineers with a BS? Would I be employed as a field engineer when first starting out, and how long are they on the construction site?
Any input from a civil engineer, someone in construction, or anyone who has an answer will be appreciated.
Answer: It all depends on the company and the position. Many civil engineering students say they want to be in the field, then find that upward mobility is critically limited by being in a field position. Many companies employ "field engineers" to have someone on site that is capable of answering technical questions and performing oversight. No matter what kind of engineering you decide on, the further up the ladder you move, the more you will have to be in an office. It's not all bad though. Being in the field all day can be very tiring, and from experience I can tell you it is nice to be able to split your time. I would suggest getting a surveying job, where you will be in the field 95% of the time, and exploring your options within the company. Most surveying companies also employ many civil engineers, and you would have a chance to really explore what everyone in the company does. You will probably have more success in transportation with this strategy, but you could make it work with structures as well.

Answer: 1.Prepare a deteiled schedule of ALL construction activities
2.Find the most critical path ie; the activity which can throw your schedules in chaos
3 Monitor material consumption norms & wastages
4 Monitor deliveries of supplies to site
5. Hve a damn good store keeper so things are not lost & you dont waste time looking for stuff
6 Obtain daily reports & weekly reports of concluded tasks & tsks behind schedules
7. Ensure perfect co-ordination between various agencies
8.You cannot do any of this with out building a damn good rpport with ALL PEOPLE
9 If you cannot find solutions to peoples problems then you are ineffective.
10 The correct statement of a problem is 90% of the solution
11 you dont have to know everything if u dont understand a term immediately ask for its meaning never mind the scepticism by & by people will know that you fully understand what you say & what they are talking about.
12 Hold co-ordination & schedule monitoring meetings. Circulate the agenda before hand & dont allow anybody to leave the room till the agenda is complete even if it goes till 3 am
13Be in the office at 9.00 sharp the next morning
14 Remember that delays result in cost escalation but that is peanuts compared to the percieved loss in profits had the plant been up & running by the target date.

Answer: Working with contractors is a huge help. If you are still in school I would suggest jumping at any internship that allows you to be around a job site and get the experience that way.
Question: Can a Construction Engineer become a Professional Engineer? What responsibilities would qualify a Construction Engineer to sit for the Civil P.E.?
Answer: Basically what everyone else has already said. Yes, a Construction Engineer can become a PE. Graduate from an ABET accredited school, pass the FE, work 4 years under the supervision of a PE and take the Priciples and Practice Exam. As for qualifying experience, I know in Calif. your degree counts as 4 years, or 2 years if its an Engr. Tech. degree and your work experience which needs to be verified. All of your experience needs to be professional type responsilbilies. You may want to check with the State Licensing board for all work exp that will count towards licensure.
