Question: What does an aircraft engineer wear to work? - i just curious what an aircraft engineer wear to work and when they're working. I wonder if they wore a uniform or just wear a formal clothes to work?
- can an aircraft engineer pursue their degree to PhD or master level?
What i meant for aircraft engineer is aircraft maintainance engineer. Tq :)
then, if an aircraft engineer is becoming an aircraft maintainance engineer or mechanic, if someone taking for their degree in Aircraft Engineering Technology, what will they become after graduate and working with aircraft company?
Answer: I believe you're asking about an "Aircraft Maintenance Engineer". Because there is another career called "Flight Engineer".
So, an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer, wears the recommended uniform for the company he/she works for. And yes he/she can pursue a higher degree (master degree) in engineering.
UPDATE:
Aviophag below is wrong!!!!! Yes Aviophag there are degrees available for Aviation Maintenance Technicians!!!! whatever you wanna call them.
Asker, please beware of anyone giving credentials as pilot or airline pilot or captain etc...they're looking for an easy way to convince you that they know and they are right.
Here is the proof:
Embry-Riddle University provides a Bachelor degree for Aircraft Maintenance Engineer called "Aviation Maintenance Science". I'm not making this up. Here is the link: http://www.erau.edu/db/degrees/b-aerosystemsmaint.html
"Every commercial, private, or military aircraft showcases the work of a professional aviation maintenance expert. The demand for degreed aircraft maintenance specialists in the aviation/aerospace world has never been greater than it is today. " As stated in Embry-Riddle Website.
I also stated that An Aircraft Maintenance Engineer can also pursue higher degree, it's true! Again, Embry-Riddle University a well- renowned and reputed institution offers a Master Degree for Aircraft Maintenance Engineer in Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
Here is the link if you don't believe me:
http://www.erau.edu/db/degrees/ms-mechanical-engineering.html
"Students with Master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering are employed in a broad rage of industries and organizations; many have started their own companies or work as researchers or consultants. Our focus on electromechanical systems, clean energy and hybrid vehicles targets areas of significant expected employment growth and industry need. According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Spring 2008 Salary Survey, Mechanical Engineering was the degree most in-demand by college recruiters. Obtaining a masters degree is typically a good investment. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employees with masters’ degrees earned 28 percent more than bachelors’ degree holders." As stated in Embry-Riddle Website.
So again, the lesson here is don't believe anyone in here easily including me, verify the information. Even the Top Contributors provide false information. I have read many of their answers which leave me to question Yahoo Answers!!!!

Question: can i work as an aircraft engineer? Hi, i'm a french and currently am working in a swiss company as an ultrasound engineer. I work on railyways and tracks using ultrasound system to check defects in the track but currently am thinking of switching my job to work in an aircraft environment.
I've been working in this swiss company for 20 years and i do have an ultrasound cert. Can anyone tell me if its possible for me to switch to an aircraft environment with this cert?
Answer: Maybe, but not as an engineer..you would be an inspector of NDT( Non Destructive Testing)but you will need to know other ways to inspect aircraft and also you have to get your A&P certificate in the US,I do not know about Europe but assume the regulations are similiar.
Question: can i get license light aircraft engineer in Australia? i need guide to get license aircraft engineer. i am willing to travel any where if any company provide LAME program. even if i had to work and study
i really interested in light aircraft such as piper warrior, piper cadet, piper Seneca 3, tobago socata and diamond aircraft. i experience of this aircraft and the latest one now i am working with diamond aircraft in Langkawi, Malaysia. i need guide to get license aircraft engineer. i am willing to travel any where if any company provide LAME program. even if i had to work and study
Answer: You will definitely have to work and study, because most countries require you to have two to three years of training and aircraft specific education before you can be licensed as an aircraft maintenance engineer. It's not just about taking a couple of simple written tests... You have to put in the time, under the guidance of a licensed instructor, and learn the proper techniques and methods to maintain and repair aircraft.

Question: Become A Airline Pilot Or Aircraft Engineer? Im At High School And Im In Year 9.
I Really Want To Be An Aircraft Engineer or Pilot.
What Should I Do For My Options To Make me Become One Of These And What Degrees Will I Have To Get?
Thankyou To Anyone Who Can Help
Jamz1107
Answer: There are several paths you can take. Starting early you should take mathematics and take a good ground school. The ground school will tell you more about being a pilot and maybe even get someone to take you up in a private aircraft for a little while. That will be fun and give you more idea if you want to pursue that.
If you want to design aircraft you should become an Aerospace Engineer. Many universities offer that program and it isn't hard to find. All engineering requires strong backgrounds in mathematics and it is better if you start that as early as you can.
The best aircraft designers are pilots and it isn't hard to get a private pilot's license. It is a bit pricey though which is why you should at least take and complete the ground school portion since that is less expensive but will teach you quite a lot about flying.
If you want to fly large aircraft for the commercials, one of the best ways to get that training, since it is very expensive is to fly for the military first. Again, better to take the engineering path but then join the military. The Air Force teaches you to fly and many of the pilots leave after 6 or 8 years to fly with the airlines.
Question: how is the opportunities as an aircraft maintenance engineer in Australia? Got aircraft maintenance engineer's experience for more than a decade and total aviation experience nearing 25years,am 41yrs now.
Answer: check some websites as the age limit is 45 so you have still time on your side either you could apply for a work and an immigrant status or just plain worker there. Your A&P must be compatible with CASA or UK-CAA or Singapore CASA or Malaysian DCA. Sometimes FAA is needed too. When I say compatible, I mean it is recognized by their CASA for conversion to their license authority which is CASA.
Question: How about career and salary packages in Aircraft Maintenance Engineer? Can any one guide me in Airlines field ? I want to know Aircraft Maintenance Engineer, Pilot course like which is best, speed grow to settle in these two fields that which we can get more salaries and qualification to do this and eye sight , height for the pilot
Answer: First, unless you are silly like me, you either become just a pilot, or just a mechanic.
To become a mechanic there are several way to do it. The best way would be to enroll in a technical school that teaches an AME or A & P course. This will cost money but will make you far more employable. Some people can get jobs with an airline with no training, but you generally start as a cleaner, parts clerk, or interior technician while you build up skills. If you are in the US you write your exams after you finish the course and you get an A & P certificate. After a few years and more tests you can get your IA (Inspector Authorization) which allows you to certify the work on aircfraft. In Canada you write exams after your course (except air regs) and complete a 48 month apprenticeship (of which a certified course will give you credit for 18). Then you are issued an AME license which gives you authority to certify work on aircraft (with some limitations).
Starting wages for airline mechanics are in the $17-$20/hr range. Once licensed (A & P with IA and type endorsement or AME M2 with type endorsement) expect a wage between $27-$35/hr for airlines. If you are working for an airline, expect a lot of graveyard shifts and weekends until you climb the seniority list.
Now for the pilot side. There are no height restrictions for civilian pilots but all must have 20/20 vision (corrected or uncorrected). A flight school will give you all the information you need but there are many different types, so check out a few of them. Some will offer accelerated training in a university style environment and will give you an aviation diploma (which is what most airlines want, although they will take a four year degree in lieu). Other flight schools are more of the mom and pop variety, but generally pay closer attention to detail and are available to glean extra advice during non flying time. You will start out with a private pilots license and work towards a commercial certificate (250hours total time in the US, 200 in Canada). On the way to becoming a commercial pilot you should pick up your multi engine and instrument rating.
After you are done your commercial training you will get on with a small air taxi, charter, or flight school to build up hours. Your goal is to get an Airline Transport Pilot License which you will need to fly with the airlines.
To get enough hours and experience to fly with a major airline takes about ten years of hard work, determination, low paying jobs, and terrible hours. Starting wages for pilots are about $20,000/year. Regional airline first officers get about $20-$25,000/year going up to about $50,000/year for a regional captain. Major airline first officers start at about $40,000/year going up well into the six figures for a senior captain.
Good luck.
Question: Anyone out there work as a aircraft maintenance engineer? Anyone out there work as a aircraft maintenance engineer?
Can you tell me what this job is all about? And its salary. Thanks.
Answer: It depends on where you live... let me explain. Since you call them "engineers" I'm assuming you live outside of the US (where I live).
Our maintenance people (at least at United) fall into two categories: A&P (Airframe & Powerplant) and R&E (Radio & Electronics). Each job requires the license the first initial represents. To be a fully qualified maintenance mechanic, you would possess the A, P, R & E.
U.S. majors require that you have the match to your license in order to work for them. The salary depends on who you work for. The avg salary of a A&P at United is 31.00 per hr and R&E's are at 27.00 per hr. I have no idea what the starting salary is since all the mechanics where I work are at a minimum of 20 years on the job.
Basically, next to the pilots, you have the most important job concerning the airplane... you determine whether or not it's safe to fly and you fix any problems that occur with it. Each airplane manufacturer has courses you have to take in order to fix their aircraft.
Most mechanics start out here at the smaller regional airlines who are affliated with the majors and eventually get hired with the major affliated with their carrier... i.e. United Express mechanics have a chance to work for United if they possess the needed qualifications when a position comes open.
Hope I helped!! Also a good source for mechanics is ATW (Air Transport World). There is a magazine called AMT (Aircraft Maintenance Technican) that can help you to pursue this career anywhere in the world. Good luck!!
Question: where to get syllabus for Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) examination? i know this may not be the right section to ask. Question: How is the future job prospect of an aircraft maintanance engineer? I want to know about the scope of an aircraft maintanance engineer and employability worldwide.
Answer: I don't think you'll be able to find a job easily, unless you immigrate to that country. Each country has its own labor force of aircraft maintenance personnel, and can usually fill their requirements themselves. You might want to try for the Middle East; they take in lots of technical personnel.
Question: Apprentice Aircraft Maintenance Engineer ? hi,
can i know what is the starting gross pay of a Apprentice Aircraft Maintenance Engineer? for SIA
is there any shift work, if yes do i get pay for it?
thks IPercy
Answer: Your first question should be what qualifications are required. SIA is very selective and probably would prefer to recruit Apprentices from RSAF. Since you didn't mention CPF I assume you're not Singaporean so the other concern you will have is cost of living.
Question: i would like to know the difference between an AERONAUTICAL ENGINEER and an AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE ENGINEER? I have taken admission for AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE ENGINEERING in UTKAL AEROSPACE and ENGINEERRING, BHUBANESHWAR for the 3 year LICENCE course & i would like to do AERONAUTICAL ENGINEERING simultaneously from the same institute. IS MY MOVE A SMART ONE?
Answer: Yes. Aeronautical engineering is involved with the design, fabrication, and development testing of new aircraft components. Aircraft maintenance engineering is involved with the maintenance and life of those components once they are actually in use. I think the knowledge of how the parts are designed and made will make you a better maintenance engineer. In addition, it will keep your options open for possible future changes that you may want to make downstream. More education in your chosen field is always a good idea. Good Luck - (not that you'll need it - sounds like you'll do well and make your own good luck)
