Question: Aerospace Engineer? I want to be an Aerospace Engineer when I grow up.
I got straight A's the whole year on science and math.
My question is am I heading the right path?
And also what is the average salary of one?
Answer: I doubt an ASE would start anywhere near 70k with a BS degree, but a number around 60k is probably not unreasonable with good grades.
This salary will go up very quickly for the first few years, too. To give you an idea of your career long prospects in terms of salary, the median income of an Aerospace Engineer is $90,930 in the U.S. according to the U.S. BLS.
You are certainly on the right path if you excel in science and math. One word of advice would be to go above and beyond the requirements of your teachers (I'm assuming you are in high school). Read your textbooks, and really understand the phenomena you are learning. It is very easy to coast through high school and realize in college you are ill prepared for an engineering curriculum. You'll have a really busy first couple of years playing catch up.
Remember, in high school your peers in math and science are mostly not going to be engineers. In college, everyone is good at math and science.
I don't mean to go on and on, but these are things I wish someone had told me when I was in high school.
Question: I want to be an aerospace engineer when I grow up. How to start as a freshman in high school? I really want to make space shuttles and airplanes and other spacecraft. That's why I've chosen to be an aerospace engineer. I heard that they are often out of a job, is that correct? And also, what do I do as a freshman in high school to prepare? Any other suggestions?
Yes, I love physics AND math. I'm taking Geometry in 9th grade. I am also going to join the Engineering Club at my high school.
Answer: When I was in high school, Geometry in 9th grade meant Calculus in 12th grade. That's a good start.
Focus more on physics classes than chemistry or biology (if you have the opportunity to take an AP class).
Really doing work towards becoming an Aero Eng. won't happen until probably your sophomore or junior year in college when you start taking your Aero classes. Until then it's just general engineering courses.
Short answer: Don't worry too much about it now. Focus on engineering based AP classes later in high school, but as a Freshman there isn't a lot you can do other than study and get good grades.
Good luck!
Question: What is the difference between an aeronautical engineer and an aerospace engineer? If I want to be an aeronautical engineer can I go to college and study aerospace engineering?
Answer: they are the same thing. except in some aeronautical engineering curriculums, they will emphasize orbital mechanics and more physics related subjects. aerospace engineering deals with more of the nuts and bolts type of applications such as fluid mechanics, etc.
Question: Can any aerospace engineer tell me what their daily work routine is? I am goign to become an aerospace engineer within the next few yeras, and I would like to know if anyone is an aerospace engineer who can describe their job to me. What is your daily work routine, and what do you dislike most aobut the job?
Thanks
Answer: Well I work for Pratt & Whitney one of the lead airplane engine designers in the world.
My daily tasks include:
- conducting tests to measure the preformance of new engines.
- Investigating failed engines.
- Designing engines
- Supervise the mechanics to make sure they are installing everything properly.
- Conduct tests.
One month im doing this one month im doing that...there many more tasks, but im not going to go into all of them. I just hope you get the basic understanding of what an aerospace engineer dose.
The #1 thing i dislike about my JOB is the noise...everytime there are tests going on you will be hearing roars of engines going of (some of them blowing up).
Our plant has 4 Fire alarm levels also that go off every single day!
Overall I love my JOB!!!
Question: Is there a place to work as an aerospace engineer in Canada? I want to become an aerospace engineer, or an aeronautical engineer and I heard that you have to go to the U.S. to to that.
I live in canada and you just became landed imagrents. I want to stay in canada for a while, is there a place in canada that offers the courses?
Answer: go on the major aircraft manufactures websites and look to see where there plants are.
Question: What are the job prospects for a female aerospace engineer? I am going to get aerospace engineering in IIT, but i want to know the job prospects and the average salary of an aerospace engineer from IIT.
Answer: Average packages are quite high in case of aerospace engineering, there is no sex thing during jobs, it does not matter weather u are male or female, its just your knowledge & skills that count.
Question: How do i become an Aerospace/Aeronautical engineer? Hi, I want to be an Aerospace engineer, and i wanted to what do i need to do during high school and beyond to achive my goal.
I got accepted into the School For High School For Engineering Professions, so what can i do there to become the engineer i want to be.
In the future i will try to go to work at NASA
thank you.
Answer: I would recommend you to get good grades and do stuff early during high school. Go to www.salliemae.org they have guides in how to success during high school. Then find out a good program in Aeroespacial engineering. I know they have a really good one in University of Florida, which works closely with Cabo Canaveral, where they launch missions to space.
Question: How much salary does a NASA aerospace engineer earn? Can someone tell me the mid-range salary for an NASA aerospace engineer? Or maybe just a decent webiste to tell me.
Thanks.
Answer: minimum wage
Question: is it hard to become an aerospace engineer? I want to become an aerospace engineer. Can you plz tell me that is it really hard to become an aerospace engineer? How many years does it take to become aerospace engineer? Which colleges offer good course in Virginia?
Thank you.
Answer: It takes 4 years. Only slackers take longer! (all right, some people take 5 years and they're not slacker, but they have excuses like full-time jobs :-))
It's hard work. No question about it - if you're in engineering you'll be doing homework while your art major neighbors are partying. But if you like math and science, it pays off. I found the classes really rewarding, enjoyed most of what I learned, and have absolutely no regrets about my degree.
And Virginia Tech should be a great place to study - I haven't actually taken classes there yet, but they sure left a good impression!
Question: If I wanted to become an aerospace engineer and get a PH.D. How long would I have to attend college? Im in the 9th grade and I am looking into becoming a aerospace engineer but I would like to get the highest degree possible. I wanted to know how long that would take. Thanks.
Answer: Your bachelors would take you 4 years unless you have a lot of transferable such as AP credits from high school or take summer classes. You don't need to have a masters to apply for a PhD which can take 4-7 years depending on your research project and advisor. Therefore, I would say on average 8-11 years.
