Question: What is it like being an Account Manager for Coca-Cola? I have a phone interview with Coca-Cola as an Account Manager. Position is located in Michigan and I am curious what the job will be like and the responsibilities other than what is listed in the job posting. I have 6 years of sales experience and comfortable interviewing. Just looking for some insight and "edge" in understanding what they do.
Any one doing this for them or know of someone? What is your typical day like? What's the salary range?

Answer: Hi kidvid, As they say..."you could sell Coca Cola in an old 44 gallon drum and people would still buy it."... As Account Manager, AM, you will have a territory. You will manage several accounts and will probably visit customers on a regular basis. If it is a route trade AM role then you will visit several lunch cafes and shops. If you are a grocery channel AM you will look after just a few high volume large grocery customers. Both roles will require you to sell as many other products with the Coke. The lemon and orange and other varieties have known market sizes and shares. Analysis will allow you to identify which products to promote. Good luck...
Question: What is the meaning of the post " Key Account Manager Associate" is it something like being a sales girl? And do they have only one Key Account Manager Associate in a company?
Answer: The answer to the first question is "no". The post is created to look after a "key account" of a company. This can be one of the important customers in terms of sales revenue, profit or growth of both or some other important aspect to the company and " key account manager" has to look after all business related aspects of this particular account or the customer.
There can be surely more than one key account managers or associates because for a company there can be several important customers in several aspects.
Question: Do I need to get an MBA to be a productive National Account Manager? I just got a promotion with my current employer. I was a District Manager, but now I have been promoted to an Account Manager in training position. I really want to do well at this position, but I'm a bit worried because I need to know how to figure out margin, gross margin, cost, points, etc. I really don't know much about those types of things since I went to law school instead of pursuing an MBA. Is there a book that I can purchase that sums up how to figure out all of those things. Also, I have been debating going back to get my MBA. Would that help? Should I decide to get my MBA, what concentration would help me out the most? Finance, marketing, or some other concentration? Any advice you can offer will be greatly appreciated because I'm clueless! Thanks again.

Another degree helps, but you definetely don't have to. If you are in sales, is probably good to specialize on Marketing. If you deliver at work, your boss does not really care if you have an MBA. So as long as you know what you are doing, you are ok.

What am I getting myself into here?
Answer: An account manager handles specific accounts of the company. He is in charge of the account's retention and development. In short, he will take care of the account and makes sure that all the account's needs are met.
Question: How does AT&T Wireless account manager automatically update my phone/device? Can I disable this feature? I often switch my sim card between multiple phones. Each time, it changes my phone/device in the online account manager. Even if I manually update my phone online, it still switches to the current device. I can't keep insurance on my main phone because the instant it detects a new device, the insurance is removed. Everyone I work with has to manually update their account when they change phones. Is there any way to disable this annoying feature? It's not the sim card! I installed a new one this past week. It has to be some sort of account setting.
Answer: Oh my gosh, can you say "Big Brother"?!? I didn't realize they could do this! I just switched my sim card from my blackjack to a razr and logged in and bam! Says my device is a razr. Funny thing is that it shows my husbands device as being some lg phone but he actually has a treo. Sorry I didn't answer your question but thanks for the eye opener.

Question: What is a project/account manager position? I've been contacted concerning an interview with an advertising agency for a project/account manager. What exactly does this position do in this industry?
Answer: This position is one in which you will most likely be a liaison for a client which your organization assigns you. You will be responsible for assigning your team members a task, and making sure that they reach the correct or most appropriate solution depending upon the account and client needs. You will head up the presentation, meeting with the management team that sought this company's services, and helping them to achieve the best possible solution for their campaign.
Question: Whats in the job description of an account manager? If you worked as an account manager in a company what would be in the general job description - as in what would you do in a normal day?
Answer: That's a sales job, probably an outside sales job. You are probably selling to existing accounts and generating new ones. Typical duties will be telemarketing, cold calls, sales call, proposal and report writing and data entry, lots of data entry. You should expect to spend at least three days a week - solid - making cold calls. You would also have to problem solve with existing accounts. They always have problems and they want their account manager to solve them.
Question: What are the duties of a Key Account manager?? What are the duties of a Key Account manager?? or is it just a sales job or customer service postion?
Answer: It is just a sales job or customer service position depending on the company that hires you and hopefully you will service certain key customers.

Question: Does anyone have experience as an account manager for a large company focusing on government sales? I'm about to have a second interview for Gov't account manager with a large company. I've been in sales for 8 years but not government sales, also not really territory sales. I've already lost one job that I really wanted due to not having the right experience. When they ask " how will you manage your territory?" "what strategies will you implement?" ....what's the right answer?
The territory is the Hampton Roads area of VA. The biggest account would be the Navy.
I have only sold to the military/gov't a handful of times (currently I sell prefabricated commercial steel buildings) and the leads were generated in-house.
Answer: Taylor, it depends on where you live in regards to government sales. Do you currently live in the Washington DC Metro area? I would also ask youself how many contacts do I have in the Federal market space/what does my Rolodex look like? I would also be prepared to give historic sales success/sales wins in the Federal market space. Jave you ever sold off of a GSA schedule? Do you have a clearance to sell into the DOD/military market space? These are the questions I would ask I was hiring a Federal sales rep..

Answer: well if you don't have any account manager experience, i'd say doubtful. If you have accounting type, then maybe your chances are ok. However, you have to consider that your husband's boss is going to dislike the idea of hiring you wether you have experience or not solely because of the fact that you are married. A lot of places don't like to fire people who are related. Pretty much every application you fill out anywhere says do you have any relatives who work for us? It's not always fair but thats the way it works. i'd say no probably not. sorry.

Answer: I would say at least minium wage also I would push for luncheon vouchers as well
Question: If you start out in an account manager, sales, or market research role.. can you switch? If you start out in a market research role and later wish to switch to a sales-like position (such as acct manager) where more interpersonal skills are involved... is that an easy switch? Or are you locked into the marketing role once you get into it and CANNOT go to sales later if you want to?
Answer: If you work hard in your research role and show the appropriate communication skills, most companies would be fine with you transferring to a sales position. It is in the best interest of every company to develop their employees to reach the highest positions for which they are capable. However, you might have to start out at a junior level in the new department until you gain more experience.

Answer: One of the things they do is work with convention and conference groups. They set up what meeting rooms will be needed, a special conference rate for the hotel rooms, the kind of set up for chairs and tables, the menu for lunches and breaks, etc. They may also set up special rates with a local business that may bring in vendors or their own people and want a special hotel rate.
Question: How can I move into an entry level account manager position with little experience? It seems when you apply for jobs they all ask for experience at the position. Its like you need experience in order to get experience. What steps should one take to get the experience in order to get that job?
