Question: What is the best way to market our tutoring business? We have owned a tutoring business for three years and are now at a place where we would like to grow by adding more tutors and new clients. We specialize in tutoring high school students that are preparing for college. We help them get their academics up as well as prep for the stanrdardized test. What is the best way for us to hire qualified tutors? The best way for us to seek new clients?
Answer: If you are looking to grow your business, there are many ways. If you put a magnetic sign on your vehicles, you can turn your car into a mobile advertisement and deduct all of your mileage. This can go a long way in finding clients and is one of the least expensive and save you the most money.
If you want to find clients and tutors, consider joining a Networking group like BNI, the Chamber of Commerce, or other local community groups. Then, you help the people there find what they need, and they help you find what you need. BNI especially is a great organization.
Lastly, consider putting up fliers wherever your demographic is. For example, talk to local high school principals and see if they may be willing to allow you to post fliers or give you a mailing list for their parents. They may also be willing to allow you to implement an afterschool tutoring program to help introduce your company to the kids and parents.
These are all inexpensive ways to grow your business. However, if none of those work for you, you might want to get a book called 6 Steps to Free Publicity. This is a really good book to help you get creative in marketing. Here's a link to the book at Half.com.

Hope this helps.
Question: If I start a tutoring company, will I need to get a business license and pay taxes? I am starting a small tutoring business at my school and will employee a few tutors to work. I am curious if I need to file for a business license and pay taxes and fees and whatnot before I begin. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks.

Question: How many hours of summer tutoring per week should my child receive? My daughter is 6 1/2 and going into 2nd grade next year. She is one of the youngest in her class and according to her teacher she is not quite where she should be at for her grade with regard to reading and writing. The teacher does not believe she has a learning issue. We'd like to give her a boost before entering 2nd grade next fall and so we will be getting her some tutoring. Based in her age and grade, how many hours per week of tutoring should she receive? Thanks for any advice.
Answer: Since she's that young i would suggest not too many hrs because she won't absorb it so per week like 3 to 5 hrs if you want a good boost but i wouldn't consider anything over cause she won't absorb it. So good luck on finding a great tutor and hope your daughter will be the smartest in her class next school year!
Hope I helped!
Question: How do you start a volunteer tutoring service? I want to find a big way to volunteer and I live in an area where a lot of kids drop out so I want to get a free tutoring service where high school kids volunteer to tutor other high school kids in all kinds of subjects. Do you think it's to big of a task or that no one will volunteer? I need some insight. How should I get started?
Answer: Post a flyer on your school bulletin board and/or school website, and see what kind of interest level there is for your idea. Managing a volunteer program certainly has the potential to become a large task; organizing and pairing volunteers with students could become time-consuming if the program really takes off. You can always recruit some volunteers to help you manage it, however, and staying organized by using a computer program like Microsoft Excel might simplify things somewhat. I'm impressed with your ambition and desire to help others; it reflects maturity and self-awareness, as well as an awareness of the world around you. Good luck!
Question: How do I start my tutoring business and advertise my services? I am currently starting my own tutoring/test preparation company. Does anyone have any suggestions about how I should get started and also about advertising. I am a current teacher, but I hate my it and I plan to quit my job and pursue my dream of being my own boss and owning my own company. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Answer: One way to get your name out there is with a web page.
My company is offering a free web page to start-up companies like yours.
There is a cost for a full web-site, but for one page the cost is nothing. This can help if you would like to keep start-up costs to a minimum.
Search Engine Optimization techniques are used so that potential customers can find your service or product when searching on the internet.

Question: How much should I charge for private english tutoring in Barcelona? I am moving to Barcelona soon and I already have some interested parties for private tutoring. How much should I charge per hour for 1-1 tutoring. I don't want to overcharge but I also want to cover expenses and prep time etc!! I am TEFL qualified and have alot of experience as a teacher.
Thank you.
Answer: I know my friend charged $25/hr in Brazil. That's the best insight I can give.
Question: What is a regular fee to charge for tutoring a young child in reading? The sessions would be about 45 min to an hour long each. It is not formal tutoring, but preparing the child for grade 1, learning to read, phonetics, etc. What is a fair price to charge per session? (I am not a professional tutor.)
Thank you!
Answer: I tutored a 5 year old in basic reading as a senior in high school and got paid $10/tutoring session; each session was usually around 45 min too. Depending on your age/experience with tutoring, you could definitely ask for more.
Question: How can I start a tutoring business in fifth grade? I'm in fifth grade and I want to be a teacher when I grow up. I know you might say you have a long time ahead of you and you should wait. But i really want to be. So I want to start by tutoring kids in the neighborhood, and my friends neighborhood. She wants to be my assitent. But i have no idea how to start. I want it to be organzied before I put forward the details and idea to my mom and dad.
Answer: You certainly can start a tutoring business. You know skills that younger children do not know; therefore, you are qualified. You can teach a child to read or do math. The key is to have the right resources to teach. You just might do flash cards with children who don't know their facts very well. Perhaps you charge $5 for a half hour of drilling your student. Or perhaps you listen to a child read for an hour... that should be worth $10. I'd put an ad in the paper and see what kind of interest you get. If your school has an opportunity after school for you to help other students, take advantage of it. A parent might see what you're doing and ask if you're available at other times to tutor for pay. You may have to offer your services FREE for awhile... but that will give you time to build your fine reputation and you'll eventually be able to charge a fee.
Question: How much should I charge for tutoring a high school student? I am a high school math teacher. I will be travelling to the students home at a convenient time for her (half hour each way) and tutoring precalculus for an hour and a half each session. What is a fair price to charge?
Answer: $30 - $35 an hour. My mom is a teacher and she charges $25 however you are having to drive to their home... I have 2 kids and I would pay that.
