Any advice & information will be appreciated, thankyou!

I wouldnt know what its like since, im only 16 and im not old enough to be one, but, i have had history classes, and what ive seen is that it hard for teachers to keep the students attention, history does not apeal to most older kids =/
hope this helps =)
Question: How do I become a history teacher? Also is becoming one competitive? I LOVE history. And I'd really love to be a high school history teacher. I've already been accepted to the college I want to go to as a history major. What else do I need to do so I can go on to teach history once I graduate college, and how competitive will it be to get a job?
Also what is the salary like? I'm not in it for the money, but it would be nice to know. =)
Also I live in Texas if that effects anything and this is also where I plan to teach.
Answer: I hope Texas isn't like Illinois.
I went on vacation to some small town in Montana this summer. Population 512.
Who did I see at the hotel? Another teacher that taught at my school interviewing for a position, because she couldn't get a fulltime job as a history teacher in the entire city of Chicago.
My step-son is currently in college to be a history teacher.
Unless he has good contacts I don't know how he's going to get a job.
Make sure you pick a 2nd endorsement. Maybe in Spanish or English. Okay?
Question: What jobs other than history teacher are available with a degree in history? I am simply looking at my options in the event that I do decide to major in history. What careers are available other than teacher?
Answer: Lawyer - My friend majored in history and now he is a successful lawyer (has his own practice).
Professors - research and teaching in history at colleges (you'll need to get a PhD in History)
Historians for Museums, historical societies, national parks, official historic sites.
Government jobs (they usually require a bachelors degree in anything)
Just to put my two cents in: History can be a very interesting major and it's well known to be an easy major. It's great if you want to be a history teacher in high school. In my opinion, I wouldn't recommend history as your primary major (maybe you can minor in it if you're interested). Just being honest. I was a psychology major and really struggled to find my way in the career world. Psych majors are like history or political science majors. These degrees don't create a pathway into a specific career field because it's too general.
Good majors are majors that you get a Bachelors of Science in. If you are good in math, hard science or computer science, then major in those types . At the end, you'll have more opportunities. If not, then a bachelors in English is better than history.
Sorry, I hope I'm not being too harsh about being a history major. I just know what it's like to be wandering around, trying to choose a major. I wish someone had given me an advice back when I was still undecided.
If you really need to find out more about being a history major, contact your career center and ask them to hook you up with emails of alumni from the history program at your college.
Best wishes!
Question: What classes do you need in highschool to become a history teacher? Well, Right now im in highschool and im planning to become a history teacher, i just wanted to know what classes do u need. Here are some classes i toke already and taking right now. I am in grade 11. I toke Geography of Canada, Canadian History in the Twntieth Century, World History to the Sixteenth Century and World Religions. thanks for all your help if i get any.
Answer: High school classes in history is not a prerequisite for you to teach history. What matters is what you will take up in college and since you want to teach history then take BSE and your major should be in history. By taking high school history classes it will help you in college.
Question: What do I have to do to become a high school history teacher or a special education teacher? Im a senior and will most likley be acepted by marshall university this summer. What classes do you have to take for a history teacher and what classes do you have to take to be a special education teacher.
Answer: I can't speak for Marshall but as someone who earn both a BSEd and MSEd in Social Studies each college has a core set of classes that you will have to take. This will likely include US History I II, World History I II, a World Geography class, more than likely both State and National Government, Sociology, Anthropology, and Economics. There will also be multiple Education Classes concluding with Student Teaching in your senior semester of undergraduate school.
Be warned, however, that you will likely be asked to coach or sponsor something once you start your career. That is why I'm not a teacher anymore. I could never find a school that wanted JUST a social studies teacher.
Question: What does it take to become a history teacher? What majors do I have to take to become a history teacher? I have always enjoyed history history classes and i dont remember getting bellow an A but i am really bad at math well not math as a whole only algebra.
Answer: If I were you I would look into other areas besides teaching that you could try. There are so many jobs out there and teaching is not for everyone.
If you really want to be a history teacher you will need to major in history education at a college. You will have to take a number of history classes that involve a LOT of reading and a LOT of very long papers. Just find a college you are interested in and they will lay out the whole program on their website.
Good luck!
Question: How do I become a high school history teacher? I want to become a high school teacher. I am probably going to go to Long Beach State (many of my teachers went to this school as well). So, after I get my degree - what then?
To all the teachers of history - how do you like your job?
Answer: I'm studying to be a teacher myself.. elementary though.. but once you finish school, if your school is like mine, you just put in apps to different districts until you get an interview..
Question: Is it possible to become a history teacher with a minor in history? I want to be a teacher but i also want to be a dentist. I was just wondering if it is possible to become a history teacher with a minor in history or would i have to pick a double major.
Answer: As long as you get your teaching certificate and take the education classes required you can teach history, BUT history teaching positions are hard to find.
Question: How easy is it for me to become a history teacher? I want to become a history teacher. Not a middle or high school one, a college prof. I am planning on getting my doctorate, but I just graduated high school. Any ideas to help me better my chances at getting a good teaching job? and how hard is it for me to get a teaching job at a good college?
Answer: To become a full-blown professor (not an adjunct instructor or instructor, but one on the tenure track), you will need to get the Ph.D. eventually. Ease, in that case, depends on the doctoral program you enroll in and the area of history you wish to specialize in.
To improve your chances of getting a good teaching job, a few possibilities:
1. Try to log some teaching experience as a grad student. If you are rising in the field, you may find yourself in a doctoral program that allows you to complete the degree without ever setting foot in a classroom, but it's often advantageous to log several classes before you have the degree in hand.
2. Attend history conferences. It's good experience to present a few academic papers at them, but conferences are also good for networking and meeting people in the field.
3. Publication of a scholarly article is a fantastic credential, so when you're working on essays at the end of each term, think about the ways in which they might be expanded into longer studies.
4. If you have several interests (in time periods, in nations, etc.), consider specializing in a field which is less frequently represented. I work in English literature, for example, and I have a variety of scholarly interests, but it became pretty clear to me that early 20th-century literature was attracting more scholars than any other area. Since all of those scholars would eventually be competing for the same pool of jobs, I went with an area that was equally interesting to me but less densely settled.
5. Make good connections with your history profs in college, and seek their guidance in choosing a graduate school and field professionals to work with. When profs learn that a serious student has a long view of a career in their area of expertise, they'll often go out of their way to show you the ropes.
The academic job market is hard to predict, especially in the Humanities, so it's tough to say how hard or easy it will be for you to secure a good job a few years down the road. If you have all the credentials in place, however, and get good guidance from your mentors and peers, you'll have a leg up on getting the kind of job you seek.
Question: What should i be a theatre or history teacher? I can not choose. Which one gets more money. I do not know which is the best. Also, is it possible to be a history teacher but also the teacher who produces the plays or musicals? I need some help.
Answer: If you have a love for History, you would be one of the few teachers that could make history come alive and help children enjoy history. I have always said there are no boring subjects, there are only boring teachers. If you have the passion, chances are you will be a good teacher. You could always be a teacher and also work in the drama department in the school system. You could incorporate the two together, making plays about history and that would be the ultimate! You would not only be teaching great history in the school, you could do drama on the side and create plays that have a history base and teach the younger students to love history also. If done right, your desire for both subjects could turn you in to one of the best teachers in America, you may end up being voted in for teacher of the year with that kind of passion.Good luck on what ever you decide. But I do know that when ever you invest in children, it is never wasted!
Question: How do I become an American History teacher? I love history well American history I think it's amazing. So I either want to do that or become a GA history teacher. Do I just go to a college for like 2-4 years and get a degree or what?
Answer: To teach high school history anywhere in the US - you will need (at least) a Bachelor's degree (4yrs) with a major in history (American history, European history, Ancient History, anything will do), and a minor in secondary education (6-12th grade). As well as 12wks (1 semester) student teaching.
The exact requirements vary by college and state.
Question: How do I become a Highschool History Teacher in Ontario? I'm in grade 11 in Ontario and i want to become a highschool history teacher. I know I want to do a concurrent program but I'm not sure what Universitys I should look into. How do i go about choosing a University with the proper qualifications and courses?
Answer: Valarie Ringrose teaches in Ontario and gives the following advice on becomng a teacher. It might be something you want to look into.
"Secondary teachers need about 5 courses per teachable subject, and they need two teachable subjects. Teachable subjects can be art, biology, English, etc, basically anything you learn in highschool. After completion of the required courses, a student applies to teacher’s college. It is quite competitive, so good marks and experience are required to get in.
There is a new way to become a teacher as well. It is called concurrent education. It lasts 3-5 years, depending on what level you wish to teach and whether you want a bachelor’s or an honors degree. You train to be a teacher at the same time as you work towards the bachelor’s degree. You take placements in the classroom from the first year.
The concurrent education program has a number of benefits such as being sure of being a teacher when one finishes university. Also, it takes away the competitiveness of university, creating a more friendly atmosphere. It allows the students to teach and to gain unique summer job opportunities."
Question: What should I major in and minor in if I want to become a History Teacher? I noticed some colleges have a history teacher certification program. However, others just have a secondary education program and a history program. Can I major in Education and minor in History and still get certification? Would I be able to do this with most colleges?
Answer: If the college has a history teacher certification program, go with that. Many liberal arts colleges offer a secondary education program and a separate history program. To teach history, go with the secondary education program. You will pick an emphasis area, such as history, and that's what your teaching area will be. Don't go with the history program. This is not for teaching high school - you will need education classes to teach high school. You can choose history as a minor if you'd like, since you'll have to take so many history classes towards your emphasis.
