Question: Driver Training? I'm 17 and I want to test for a learner's permit. I completed online driver education. The California DMV handbook says you need to provide proof that you "completed driver education and are taking driver training (DL 387, DL 392, OL 237, or OL 392)."
Does this mean I have to show proof that I'm already enrolled in driver training, or can I enroll after getting my permit?
Answer: According to the information below you can get your permit without the driver education certificates only if you are at least 17.5 years of age at the time you apply.
Driver Education and Driver Training Form Requirements:
If you are 15 ½ to 17 ½ years of age, you will need to provide proof that you:
Completed driver education (Form DL 387 or OL 237) and are taking driver training (DL 392 or OL 392)
OR
Completed driver education and driver training (DL 387, DL 388, DL 388A, OL 237, or OL 238).
OR
Are enrolled and participating in an approved integrated driver education/driver training program (DL 400).
If you are over 17 ½ but under 18 years of age, you may get your permit without the driver education and driver training certificates however, you will not be able to take the driving test until you turn 18.
Once you pass your written test, you will be issued a provisional permit.
A parent, guardian, spouse or adult 25 years of age or older, who has a valid California driver license, must be with you when you drive. He or she must sit in a position close enough to take control of the vehicle, if necessary. It is illegal for you to drive alone at any time.
Question: Is behind the wheel and driver training the same? To get your permit, you have to do driver's ed and be enrolled in driver training. Here's what the DMV says you have to do to get a license: "Satisfactory completion of an integrated driver education and training program that is approved by the department and conducted by a driving instructor licensed under Chapter 1 (commencing with Section 11100) of Division 5. The program shall utilize segmented modules, whereby a portion of the educational instruction is provided by, and then reinforced through, specific behind-the-wheel training before moving to the next phase of driver education and training. The program shall contain a minimum of 30 hours of classroom instruction and six hours of behind-the-wheel training."
So do you finish the 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training after you get your permit?
Answer: Driver training could be classroom or actual "behind the wheel" time.
Question: is driver training no longer required after you are 17 years old? I wanted to write a persuasive essay on how driver training should be free(by the DMV or payed for by school) because of the crazy prices they are making people pay for it up to 300$ just to learn how to Drive! My parents used to get it free with their school and I wanted to argue for it to be free once again.. but someone in my class told me that once you hit 17 years old, you dont have to take driver training. i dont think thats true because its learning how to drive. so how do you NOT learn how to drive and be able to drive legally? i dont get that at all. is that true?
Answer: Check your DMV website. Some states assume you will be taught in the old school way by parents and friends and not paying for a certificate; some states require one.
Question: driving with my L in BC canada how long do i have to wait to get my N if i take driver training? i heard that if i take driver training that i can get my N sooner then 1 year, is that true? or do i still have to wait the full year before going into take my road test?
Answer: Only a few days, is not to long and is very easy.... if You pass the test.
Question: where to get free truck driver training? I was thinking about driving a semi but every place I look at wants you to pay for the truck driver school. there has to be some companies that offer free training. any ideas?
Answer: None of them offer it free for real, they will tell you it is free such as Hogan Trucking, but you must agree to drive for them for a certain period of time after completing your training, to pay back the cost of the training. Which is fine , because you don't have to pay up front.
Type free truck driving training in your google bar & you will be slammed with places, the lists seem endless.*
Question: How many times can you take driver's training for a speeding ticket? Can you take driver's training for a speeding ticket within 18 months in a different county?
Answer: how about getting your foot off the accelerator
Question: Is it possible to take drivers training in CA and get driver's license in Washinton? i specifically mean the behind-the-wheel training classes..
Would WA approve of that?
Are the requirements pretty much the same between states?
Answer: To take driver training in CA, you need a CA permit. If you live in WA, you cannot get a CA permit.
Question: Driver's training question: What's a protective green arrow? This is for a driver's training homework assignment. I need to right a short story of a scenario in which I am approaching an intersection to make a left turn at a "protective green arrow". However, there's a traffic jam. What do I do?
oops, I meant *write
Answer: The protective green arrow gives you a safe way to turn left, without having to worry about on coming traffic (traffic opposite you is stopped)
If there is traffic IN the intersection, you have to wait..even though you have the right of way.
Question: How good is BMW driver training? I currently own an old manual Mazda and i am learning to drive manual on it. I plan on buying a BMW used/new (will decide soon) and plan to take it to track days. But i am not confident of my ability to drive on track. So i wanna know if it is useful to get BMW driver training in some advanced lessons ....?
Answer: you can go to www.bmwusa.com/bmwexperience/performance… its about 700.00 for two days of training for the first timers on the track. It will also help you get comfortable in your BMW.
Question: Do I need to take driver's training before I get my license? I live in California. The DMV site was confusing and not that clear.
The DMV site says: "If you are over 17 ½ but under 18 years of age, you may get your permit without the driver education and driver training certificates however, you will not be able to take the driving test until you turn 18."
I plan on doing just that (I'm almost 17 ½). Does that mean I don't have to take driver's training in order to get my license?
That is what I assume, but then in another section, it says: " Before being eligible to take your driving test you must:
* Be 16 years old
AND
* Have held your permit for a minimum of six months
AND
* Have completed driver education
AND
* Have completed 6 hours of professional driver training
AND
* Have completed 50 hours of practice with an adult 25 years or older. The adult must have a valid California driver license and certify to the 50 hours of practice. At least 10 of the 50 hours must have been done at night."
So do I have to take it or not?
I already took driver's education.
Because of complications having to do with my family, I'm unable to take driver's training... so this is why I'm wondering.
Answer: The manual IS confusing but, as a former driving examiner, I can confirm that if you wait until you are 18, you do not need driver training in order to take your driving test. You can apply for a learner's permit at age 17 1/2 and then take the driving test when you turn 18. Good luck!!
