Senior Developer Career Guide and Counseling

Question: What is a good c# book for senior vb.net developer? I am looking for a good book to use as a reference book that is advanced enough for a senior developer (.net 2.0 framework preferred). The catch is that I am senior at vb.net. and have only limited experience in c#. For instance, if I want to lookup how to cast a variable, or how to add an event handler, I want a book that will show syntax for both basic and advanced c# techniques. Thanks for the suggestions!!

Question: Where to begin in being at a goal of senior web developer? i would like to get into web design and keep jumping around between languages. i use w3schools for the basics but i am wanting to know a list in order of what should be learned first through last to actually get to the point of being a senior web design tech. IE: 1. html 2. java script 3 php are there any tools or special peripherals that i could use or obtain along the way as well that would help speed up on illustrating too?

Answer: html, php, mysql, javascript, flash, then maybe into Java and others. You will need quite high level qualifications to become a senior designer, there are thousands of good designers out of work right now.

Question: Technical knowledge of senior developer? Once you become a senior developer in a specific technology, do you need to know or remember all functions and syntax for this technology? Say for example, php or .net, after 3-4 years working with it do other people assume you should know everything about it by memory and by heart. Reason I'm asking is in my upcoming job interviews for a senior developer, if I can't answer any of their questions related to memorizing exact functions and syntax, would I look dumb and not considered an expert in this technology?

Answer: I wouldn't expect anyone to know everything about a given technology. That is what API references are for. I would expect them to know quite well the core concepts, and the bits they claim to have been working with for 3-4 years. But more so, I would expect them to be able to demonstrate an understanding of technologies they have worked with and those relevant to me to a high degree. I would expect them to be able to devise solutions or at least come up with (one or two) good ideas on the spot in the interview. I wouldn't expect them to be able to code the solution in notepad, but If I give them half an hour with a real IDE, then I'd expect them to come up with something.

Question: To whom it is said Senior and Junior developer in the field of computer programming? in Job offer's terms the employers ask for Senior developer or Junior developer. Who is the Senior developer and who is the junior? I think it is regarding to the years of experience but how many years of experience make you a senior developer? thank you very much

Answer: a Junior Developer is ideally a entry level engineer and a senior Developer is usually a person with 2-4.5 years of experience in IT. The term Senior Developer is just a designation and overlaps several roles viz., application programmer, information associate, programmer analyst, software engineer etc.. depens on which IT organisation you are working in.

Question: Java Senior developer vs lead developer Hi, I'm wondering which job title of Senior developer or Lead Developer is preferred if I want to advance a future career as Head of development or other managerial positions at that level.

Answer: If I'm looking at resumes, the words LEAD leap out of the page. You'll still need to describe what it was you lead, how many people were involved, and how the project turned out, but when in doubt, choose the job with more (acknowledged) responsibilities. Not saying that a "Senior" position is chopped liver, but if you want to impress with your competence and show that you're able to take charge and move up, become the go-to guy of a project. Just make sure you're not biting off more than you can chew.

Answer: What are you looking? What is your better profile? I have 15 years and I've chose for while technical (to have fun and nothing of boring human chess game). After, I'll go back to managerial option, because I'll receive more money. Technical you have more potential jobs while as a manager, you have less jobs. Managerial has responsabilities and it can just dumpt you if somebody bellow you do something quite wrong. Its the kind of answer that is linked to your personal profile. What will made you happy? After 20 more yars working, what is more rewarding. Are you better dealling with people or computers? Based on your explanations that you have wrote above I would chose senior development doing technical direction, because you will be able to do more search and will not be under permanente pressure by deadlines and go-live. You will get only deificult cases and not day_today activity.... but beware to not be forgoten.

Answer: Well firstly its not about the title. You can go ahead and type your new business card with whatever title you wish. Senior Web Developers are characterised by their ability to define solutions on the web rather than just developing small to medium web applications. This includes but is not limited to designing and developing leading-edge enterprise solutions over the web. You should have comprehensive skills that are required to build interactive, data-driven Web applications. If you envision and Design a web application, design and develop a user interface, design and develop a component to be used with a web application, test and stabilise an application, in addition to deploying and supporting an application, then go ahead and call yourself senior. Question: I need a sample letter requestion promotion to Senior Analyst/Programmer? I have 7 years of experience in the IT area. I was hired in this company and they told me there was going to be a Developer Manager promotion in the next year. Now they say it can't happen so I feel like at least I should request a promotion to senior Analyst/Programmer because I am not only creating programs I also had accomplish projects that involve some other actions than programming. Question: What should I do to become a real estate developer or investor? Im a senior in high school and plan on going to a community college for 2 yrs.and then 2yrs. at a university and major in bussiness administraion. I think while Im doing that I should intern for a big real estate place like Remax or something because I would like to learn the different areas of real estate like being an agent or flipping houses.I don't know if I should go to Real Estate school after college or what.Any suggestions on what I should do?

Answer: I recently graduated college and I am employed as a commercial real estate appraiser. It is pretty funny; I went to a community college for my Associates and went 2 more years to a university for business as well. I think working in any aspect of real estate is good especially for you and your age. I think working for a brokerage is good because money is not a big object yet and you can work part-time as you go to school. Also, you will get a feel of the business and you will see the different avenues it can take you such as sales, financing, construction, appraisal, commercial/residential investing etc. As an agent you will be exposed to different dimensions of the business. My suggestion is to find yourself while you are in community college and then make a decision in to what major you will be in before entering a university. Good Luck!
