Question: How important is private security in your? Private security has not only become more
prominent in our society in the last few years, but also more important. In what areas of your community has private security become more prominent? This could be at an
airport, place of business, or where you live. How important is private security in your
community? How effective is private security? What more could be or should be done?
Answer: It is a joke. I have to go into the water treatment facility for a large city. Most of the time I have to wake the security guard up. Most of the private security around the country is laughable it only works on people willing to follow the law terrorist don't. I don't believe the whole terrorist threat anyway. I am more concerned with domestic terrorist and thugs. "Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both."
Benjamin Franklin
Question: How does camera security work for table games at casinos? What's the level of internal control like for table games [in casinos]? I know each table has a camera above it. Is there a security personnel for EACH table monitoring the activity? And is there another security personnel watching the other security personnel that's watching the dealer, and so fourth? Just curious.
Answer: Depending on how big the casino is will determine the amount of people watching the cameras. Each bulb above your head in a casino has 4 other cameras in it or 1 mobile camera. The people who operate them can scan a person or play at anytime. Usually the floor person or pit boss will notify the sercurity above aslo known as the eye in the sky as to a certain person or game to watch. My advice dont try to cheat you will get caught. I worked as a pit boss for 15 years you wont get away with it. Just about every spot except for the bathrooms are under watch.
Question: How good are home security alarms in apartment buildings ? Are home security alarms necessary in apartment buildings. We own our condo and were considering installing a home security alarm. What do home security alarms do, what are they capable of ? Is it worth paying $ 30 a month for an alarm ? Is Brinks a good name in the alarm industry. Thanks in advance for any suggestions or ideas.
Answer: It really depends on the system. All of the bigger alarm companies use around the same level of product as far as quality. Be advised of the following, what the alarm companys do is sign you to a contract for years at a time. Say 4 yrs for 199.00 Right? ok and what they do is incrementally increase your monthly fee after that. The average total equipment cost for a small residential alarm system is right around that 199.00 wholesale so they lose a few bucks on the initial install to get you signed on for years at a time. They usually tie right into your phone system and if improperly installed , depending on your area they may have fines for false alarms. If you live in an area where home invasion is a possibility I would have one installed for sure. But make sure you shop around, Brinks and ADT are national companys. they sometimes pay installers by the job so sometimes these guys race in and out and are pulling baseboards to route wires all over and if improperly done can be a real mess. Professional installations costs far more, not so much for the equipment as they are typically about the same at the entry level, but for the time for a professional installer to come in and hide every wire. I would insist that not a wire show and that can be done , dont let them tell you different as I have done it, 15 yrs ago I did so. I am now a licensed master electrician and do much larger scale work. So in summation, if you feel unsafe in your neghborhood, have a high crime area, its worth it for the fire and the ability to silently call for help from a key pad. Things to avoid, Wireless systems, more trouble than what they are worth. Get a good Hard wired system installed professionally and make sure you read the total cost of what your signing. make sure they will pay for any fines incurred by an ill operating system. And if you do have one installed make sure they take hours with you to completely train you in the operation of your alarm system. get them to include this service in writing up front. And lastly I hope you never need to use an alarm. Other questions to ask, The systems use a dialer to call in, if in an emergency the alarm will cut off telephone service until it is finished dialing in. Also check and see where and how fast there dial up system is. I have seen where in remote locations its a long distance call to a monitoring center and there are also little system checks that can report in requiring a phone call usually programmed in the night. But if this call is long distance it can add to telephone bill. Also the battery back up on the controls, for 30 dollars a month you should get a new battery installed for free every two years or so, I would also ask for this. Watch for wording in the contract that allows them to raise the rates , and especially after your contract expires expect the rate to rise, they do this to all of there customers. i once went to a clients home to find she had been paying 90 dollars a month, She had been a customer with them for many many years. What i did was replaced her old system with a new one, charged her nothing, and placed her on a new contract... Probably why i dont work there anymore LOL......Anyway I have saved people with alarm systems and I have seen where it was a bad place to have it.Oh if you have pets , dont let anyone fool you into saying they have a special pet lense, its all BS, they always end up setting it off trust me I have taken them out in the old days..
Good Luck
Question: Is a security officer allowed to grab someone they saw shoplifting and also take their backpack? Hypothetical: We'll call the person X
X walks into a shop. Gets in, packs his bags with some items from the shop, and gets outside. Security guard comes outside, produces ID, grabs X, and asks X to step back into the store. Does the security officer have the right to grab X on the suspicion (possible witness) of theft? Also, when X attempts to run, the security officer grabs his bag, and X doesn't get it back. Is that considered theft on the security's part?
Also, what rights does X have? Can the security gaurd be charged with assault and theft?
Thanks!
Answer: Yes he can. Please tell Person "X" he's screwed.
Question: I run a business in Melbourne and want a good security company? I am sick of the useless security guards and security companies that give me no help at all. The security officers cannot speak english and look like shit in their uniforms, putting off my customers. Does anyone know a professional security company that i can use.
There must be better than this out there. Where are the good security guards and security companies.
Answer: With proper training(to understand the powers of arrest and their limitations) and financial incentives regular employees are just as good as security guards and security officers(most just observe and report) so the company can save money. Most Private Patrol Operators (PPO) known as guard or security companies train people the least and buy the cheapest equipment.
Do a Yahoo search by typing the name of a company+lawsuit; e.g. Securitas+Lawsuits, Inter-Con+Lawsuits, Golden West K-9+Lawsuits, Akal+Lawsuits.
To know the dirty laundry of a PPO

To ensure that you have the best comes at a high price with its benefits. In-House security means decent pay and benefits that motivates people to enusure your company does not go out of business otherwise they would suffer. The companies with the best are NOT global but regional that pay their people better than the top 3 global companies.

Question: What kind of security systems do psyciatric wards/insane asylums have? I am wondering what kind of security systems are used in psychiatric wards, specifically for people deemed possibly dangerous. What if they are young kids/teens? Are they subjected to tight security along with the adults? What are the living conditions?
Answer: My brother was in a state hospital from age 18 untill his death when he was 35. Only dangerous peoples are locked up. It's not a prison so he was allowed to walk around the grounds. He could only leave the grounds with permission, and that was when we picked him up for the weekend. Unless they comitted an act of violence, they could generally walk on the grounds. There was no lock in gate around the area. However if he left the grounds, he went to lock up. I believe they had cameras, but I never seen them.

Question: What security camera would be work the best? I am looking for a security camera that records all of the time. I don't know what would be best for that to go to the internet or dvd. I have no knowledge at all on these. Someone please help me.
Answer: all depends on how much money you want to spend, the most expensive route is to get a dedicated DVR and camera package from Swann or Lorex, anywhere from $600 on up, you could also get IP security cams from Wilife and Swann. the cheapest option is to get a DVR pci card and convert an obsolete PC to a DVR. I use a Swann DVR PC guard card with a Swann bullet cam and a lorex BW all weather cam. the card is installed on an old athlon xp 2500 computer with a wireless card up in my attic, i acces via web. the swann card has good clear instructions on how to do this.
Question: Social security benefits are indexed to inflation. Would my benefit be reduced if we have negative inflation? I am currently receiving social security benefits. If we have negative inflation in 2009, would my benefit be reduced in 2010?
Can you give me a reference to support your answer or a description of your qualifications to answer it. I don't just want an opinion. Thanks.
Answer: No! Social Security would not reduce your check. You would just not receive a cost of living increase and I have never seen that happen. Here are the COLAs back 2000 to present:
Year COLA
2000 3.5
2001 2.6
2002 1.4
2003 2.1
2004 2.7
2005 4.1
2006 3.3
2007 2.3
2008 5.8
Question: Is security guard work boring and underpaid? What do security officers do, are they underpaid, is it boring and what kit do they have?
Answer: Yes, and no. Private security includes (but is not limited to) guarding gates, screening passengers and cargo, store detectives, bodyguards, loss prevention, and building/lobby security. You can make it as boring as you want to, but then your pay is usually comensurate with you performance. Highly skilled, performers can draw about twice the local minimum wage in any given area for unarmed security work.
Armed security requires more time for continuing education training, greater skills, and as such demands more money. These armed jobs typically include guarding government facilities, patrol, alarm response, and high-profile/high risk security assignments. These assignments tend to be less common, but the pay usually provides an increase of about 50 percent over unarmed security.
If by "kit" you mean gear, then that can range from a pen and paper to full duty belts similar to police.
Question: What security suite requires the user to hold up a badge in front of their monitor in order to log-on? I have seen this once before, and before logging on the user stands in front of their computer monitor while it blinks and flashes a bunch. Somehow this allows them to gain access. I have mainly seem this in investing firms, and companies who deal with large amounts of money. Does anyone know what this software or security suite is? Thanks, J.

Answer: Control panel > security > security center > change the way security center allerts me (on the left)
Question: Norton Security keeps automatically popping up on my desktop. How can I delete it for good? Ive noticed it 5 times in the last 3 days alone. A norton security icon pops up on my desktop adn each time I see it, I uninstall it and remove it form the desktop, but it keeps coming back. Im scared it's the worm thats been going around. I do have a very good antivirus software, McAfee, and I regularly scan my computer and download updates. But how can I block this from my computer or delete it for good?
Answer: Sounds like you may have Norton Security Scan on your computer. It comes with the Google pack, and some other programs like adobe. When you install the program it gives you the option not to install Norton Security Scan, many users when installing programs don't pay attention to what they are doing and get programs they don't want on their computers. This happens alot with search bars in browsers. The only way to get rid of the left over Norton may be to uninstall the program that came with Norton Security Scan. Google Norton removal tool. Get it from the Norton or symantec link. Run the tool, restart your computer, then run the tool again and restart your computer. If that does not get rid of it, you will have to uninstall the program that came with Norton Security Scan. When you put the program back on just make sure you unchecked Norton Security Scan.
Question: What security clearance is needed for the Officer Candidate school application and where to find this info? I am applying for OCS to be a Naval Officer. I need information on what type of security clearance I need. I believe it is a secrect clearance or higer but I need to see an Offical document mentioning this.
Answer: You can go to any state college, and some community colleges and apply for ROTC. Or you can go to a recruiters Office and apply for OCS. you need no Security Clearance just no felonies, or DUIs. They will give yoiu a security cleaance.
Question: How do I add security to my wireless network? I have an existing wireless router that pops up listed as with no security. My neighbors' networks pop up with their household name and "security enabled". How do I convert mine to a secured network without changing existing connections already using it?
Answer: Wireless Router settings:
In a browser address bar, type 192.168.X.X (look in user manual for exact address for administration interface address) & find the Settings for Security (or similar):
Set for WPA (or WPA2 if your computers support this level) & AES.
(Use WEP only as a last resort: it's apprentice work to crack).
Also;
Turn off 'SSID' broadcast;
Disable: UPnP & QoS (unless using VoIP or gaming),
Enable: Router management username & bulletproof passphrase (not the same as Internet access password, which would be the PSK (pre-shared key)).
PSK's should be over 7 characters; letters & numbers (mixed), not words.
Put this # on tape & put on the top of the router for easy access.
Note: Mac address filtering will prevent freeloaders, but will not deter committed hackers. Mac addresses are on the front end of packets, therefore un-encrypted & easily copied and used to 'spoof' packets; enabling a 'man in the middle' attacks.
You might want to also set (in 'Connections') as 'always connected' to prevent disconnects when there is no activity to or from the Internet.
Computer settings:
If you're using Windows to configure your Wifi, go to Control Panel> Wireless Network Connections> Wireless Networks tab; here you'll need to identify all wifi networks your system 'sees', then for your own (or preferred) network, highlight it, then 'move up' to the top of the list: then, go to 'Advanced' button, tick 'access points only' and uncheck 'Automatically connect to non-preferred networks'>close> OK
