Question: How to apply a content management system to a website made in Dreamweaver? Hello,
I've recently put together a simple website (designed in photoshop/ sliced/ dreamweaver) for a local charity, but am unsure how to help them update their site and upload pictures themselves.
I've heard of content management systems but have no idea how they work, which one to go for or how to apply them to my designs. Does it have to be designed in a certain way, or built in to the original?
Any help would be much appreciated :)
xxx
Answer: I had been using both Joomla and Mambo CMS. If you had already designed it on dreamweaver it only needs some small tweaks on your code.. Put all your images in a single folder, all css files in a single folder then you have to create an XML file which lists down all your files with there respective location (images, CSS, HTML, PHP, etc)..
Whew! too long to discuss... Just follow this link:

Question: What is the best content management system for me? I am planning on launching a website that has Several static pages, a Blog, an art Gallery, and an ongoing series of FAQ pages. I was wondering what the best Open Source Content Management System would be to implement this idea.
I'd also like to have a reasonably simple backend. Something that isn't so complex that I have to wade through menus to alter any of it.
I find it interesting that nobody else has given it a go. :: Giggles ::
Answer: try joomla.org
Question: What should a good content management system contain? I am planning to have a website built for a new business idea I have developed and would like to know what a good Content Management System (CMS) should contain?
Answer: Check Joomla, Drupal,Vbulletin
Question: How to build a content management system? What is the best way to learn how to build a content management system? Is there a good book to learn how? or should i just use one of the free ones, if so what the best for having users customize their own accounts?
Answer: I assume that you are new at PHP and server side scripting. Therefore we cannot just teach you how to make one. You will need lots of practice with PHP, and I mean LOTS in order to write your own. If you are really set on writing your own, pick up the book called "PHP for the World Wide Web: Visual QuickStart Guide" by Larry Ullman. It will teach you how to make a CMS from the basics of PHP. It also has the complete source code in the book too.
However if that seems too much work, Drouple is a VERY powerful and easy to install open source CMS with great support. http://drupal.org/ It is 100% free and great for beginners.
Question: what is the easiest way to set up content management on a website? what is the easiest way to set up content management on a website?
I have recently created a business card style website for a client.
The client would like to be able to change the content on the pages by themself in the future.
What is the easiest way to set this up? I have looked at Joomla but it is too complicated. Is there a simple way to do this or a website that offers this sort of service?
Answer: Depends on the clients experience in Web language. For content moving and uploading i would advise using an FTP client, something like Wise-FTP, however as for content editing like the text i still use the good old fashion way of notepad and on the odd occasion Dreamweaver.
Question: Can anyone recommend a free and good content management system? I freelance by building small websites for local businesses. I build them in HTML because they only have a couple of pages. Answer: Absolutely - Look into WordPress.... It's not just a blogging system anymore, it's a fully operational content management system which very large sites using it. The template customization is pretty much endless and if you liek, you can deliver the customer a great site with updatable pages plus a onsite blog within the same system. Here is one small example of a WordPress site: http://www.usedcarsavings.com/

Question: If I use an open source content management system in website for a private business, do I have to pay someone? I am starting an a social networking-type sight targeting Chinese users. Are business model is based on businesses marketing to users of our social network. I am currently searching for freelancers to build the site for me. If they use an open source content management system or other open source frameworks in the site, will I run into legal problems or have to pay licensing fees to someone?
Answer: Hi
No you wont have any problems, open source content managers are free to use, i myself use Drupal.
The people who create the content and modules always give it free too, sometimes a site will ask for a donation but you do not have to do.
The only thing you have to make sure of is whatever content you use make sure it doesnt say you must include a link to their site etc.
Using a theme you must keep the authors name etc on it, its normally at the bottom, you can remove it but may face a few problems , its very rare that they know who is using their content anyway.
You should just have to pay the freelancers who create the site for you.
Question: What is a good freeware content management thing? for websites? Are there any good content management things for websites?
Freeware?
Which is the best one? thanks!
Answer: It depends on how complex the Web site you're trying to manage is.
If you need a simple blog with only 1 user: wordpress.org
If you are managing a complex site but only have a few "editors": Plone
If you have a large site with many users and need workflow management, version control, etc: Drupal, or start paying $$$
Question: What content management system does barack obama's website use? Just curious... B. O.'s site seems very slick... does it use a Content Management System? Joomla? Drupal or something custom?
Answer: I am not 100% on who made that site, but I believe you could mirror it pretty closely with Joomla. If you are looking to start a site like that, you can instantly install Joomla when you get http://www.GotHosting.org/ hosting. The same goes for Drupal. I have a site http://www.WebDevXChange.com that uses drupal if you are looking for comparisons.
Question: Can you use Dreamweaver templates with content management systems? Can they use be used with only specific content management systems?
Answer: As long as you write them correctly, with editable areas that your CMS will understand then you can use them with any CMS at all.
Most CMS's won't be able to use an html page though.
It's more likely to need the template to be in something like aspx. Dream weaver can still edit/create these templates no problem
