You will never be puting your job #1 when you work at home and watch a toddler, so why give them raises and more money, and remove them from being in the workplace, where a manager needs to be able to be called on throughout the day?
As a man, could you leave for "paternity " and work only with email correspondence through out the day for the next few years because you adopt a kid? Ask your employer- tell them you are having a baby and want maternity leave. Adapt an orphan. Next, Buy an XBOX and a nice computer.

Answer: Well it is either that or lay people off and break up a team that has the ability to succeed. When the supply returns and prices come down then a return should be seen.

I've been in a managerial role for over a year now, I have been very sucessful and pleased with the results I produce within my department but am getting increasingly frustrated by managers of equal status in other departments finding minor faults with my staff's work and highlighting it to our mutual boss. Does anyone else have this problem and how did you deal with it and why do people do this when we all work for the same company ?

Answer: 1. You are doing a good job. Your boss (unless he is an idiot) is probably aware of this.
2. Your equals are finding minor faults and bringing them to the boss because they are threatened by you. Ignore them and their attempts to look better at your expense. This only highlights their desperation to look better.
3. I have had the exact same problem at a few different places. The best thing I found to do was to continue working at being a good manager and take any criticism as an opportunity to improve.
It is annoying but in the management environment you will always run into these types of people. It is their insecurity that makes them do this and they are to be avoided and pitied.
