Question: How do I get started as a plasterer at 25, what qualifications do i need to get a job on site? Can you help me become a plasterer?
Answer: My stepson who is older than you went to night school to take a course on plastering - he now works as a self-employed plasterer and is doing really well. Most colleges will have names of contractors who are looking for trades people.
I am talking about UK - hope this helps
Question: How much for a plasterer? I am about to begin improving the inside of my house. How much should I expect to be charged by a plasterer, per hour, to skim some inner walls?
Answer: expect to pay abot £120 - £150 per day, if they charge you day rate. if they do 'price work' then they will give you one price for all the work you need doing. theres pro's and con's of being charged either way
Question: Can you (a plasterer) plaster over old wallpaper or does the paper have to come off? I am looking at an old renovation project to sell on so want to minimalise time and labour and want to know if it is possible to plaster over the ancient old textured wallpaper that will be such a nightmare to get off? Thanks, Martin. (any plasterers in the Epsom, Surrey area feel free to quote!!!)
Answer: I think it would be easier to strip the paper off. Plastering takes ages.
Question: How much will it cost to get a plasterer to plaster a medium-sized room? I know I should use the Yellow Pages instead of asking here, but I'd like to get a ball-park figure so I know if I can afford it or not!
The room is about 11 foot by 6 foot.
Answer: Anyting over 300 dollars i would be backing down from that contracter
Question: How much should I expect to pay a plasterer? I've just put up a stud wall, and plaster-boarded it. It's about 2 mtrs long, and I need both sides doing, and there's an external corner on one side - which means there's an internal corner on the other! There's one socket to plaster around, but that's it. Any advice on the cost to expect would be really helpful, thanks in advance!
Answer: Depending on where you are in the country and how expert/busy the plasterer is I'd say a range of £12 - £20 per hour. Hope this helps.
Question: How much would it cost to get a plasterer to plaster 3 average size rooms? I live in Cumbria and want my living room and 2 bedrooms plastering. I would like them to have a smooth finish so that i can just paint them. How much roughly will it cost?
Answer: depends on what is on your walls now.
Question: How much would a plasterer charge? For a kitchen and backlobby, roughly 6meter by 3 meter also the roof which at the moment is artex, also there are a few holes where plug sockets have been removed.
Also a door har been filled up so in the living room that wall would need plastered and in the hall where a new door was put in would need taped and plastered. I live in the north east of Scotland.
Roughly how long would this take?
Answer: It's best to call and get two or three free estimates.
Question: If you were looking for a plasterer where would you look to get one? my partner is a plasterer & would like to know where people would look to get a plasterer, internet yellow pages etc?
He has tried the yellow pages and it hasn't been very successful didn't get much work at all from it
Answer: Depends on who you want to work for.
If you want to sub to a larger company then get hold of the person who deals with subbing.
If its the public you prefer then try the cards inth esupermarkets and leaflets to people who hire out small tools, and builders merchants are a good reference especially if you do a little something for them.
Also ask the local estate agents to put your card or leaflet in with any sales particulars they hand out.
See if you can get some free pr from your local paper it isn't that hard if you find the right person and push the right buttons.
That should be a start.
good luck.
Question: Anyone a plumber or electrician or plasterer or decorator? I am studying Construction and the built environment at college and I am doing an assignment called Planning organisation control. One of my tasks says this:
You have been asked to look that the installation of the electrical wiring, plumbing, plastering and internal decorating. This requires some initial research, first, research the best method of planning these tasks: should they all be undertaken at once or should they be carried out in sequence, one after the other? Then look at the management issues. Who is responsible? Who decided where each installation goes? Is there a process of control to follow? Should some installations be undertaken before plastering or decorating? Identify any techniques that could be used to support this process and consider the advantages and disadvantages of the most widely used techniques.
Can anyone send me any websites or tell me from knowledge how this is done? I am training to be a quantity surveyor and therefore i do not know what happens on site. well vaguely.
would really really appreciate the help.
Thank you.
Answer: The big thing about this is Co-ordination (something that rarely happens in reality) They are very different trades all waning to work in the same area (ceilings and walls) and it nearly always ends in tears.
What is needed and what most contracts call for are fully co-ordinated drawings - all the services shown so that any clashes can be identified. The M+E installer normally produces these drawings and the Consultant checks them - he is competent from a technical point of view but the last word on this should be with the architect or interior designer. The ideal is to arrange all these things to happen within controlled areas - this allows the remainder of the plastering and decorating to proceed - getting works in sequence is important here. some matters can be resolved by choice of materials - a fully suspended access type ceiling much easier than a plasterboard finish for example. The main contractor is responsible for co-ordinating all the activities on site and he needs to have a firm grip on the subcontractors and take a proactive approach to avoid problems arising. Most installations will have first fix /second fix sequences and these need to be programmed in carefully to ensure that the builders work keeps pace with the M+E work. This might involve erecting walls and only fixing plasterboard to one side for example so that half the finishing can be progressed. You just need to apply copious amounts of common sense - something that is in short supply on most sites.
Question: How much (on average) would a plasterer charge to plaster 120m2?
Answer: It's impossible to give you an accurate answer--not knowing where you live--a private home--easily reached OR a penthouse on the 26th floor in mid town Manhattan--my advise to you is to call three local contractors--plasterers--get three estimates--IN WRITING--apples for apples---make sure you get a copy of their workman's comp insurance BEFORE they start the work--be willing to pick it up at their office--home--or insurance office by the DAY BEFORE they start the work--absolutely not to be handed to you the day they start---you will never see it. good luck
Question: Ho much does a plasterer charge for skimming an average artexed ceiling? What would the daily rate be? I am in Kent?
Answer: the artex needs to have all the high bits (nibs) scraped off first then the whole area needs two coats of pva to seal the ceiling then it can be skimmed, I am a plasterer and I would charge £150 plus materials, you may be charged slightly more as you are in kent I am based in somerset.
Question: Should I expect a Plasterer to remove a radiator or do I need a Heating Engineer to do this for me? I need to remove wallpaper from behind a radiator before having the room plastered.
Answer: As a decorator I never touch radiators because 50% of the time it is never without problems. I always pay someone who does it all the time to do it.
I would ask the plasterer, some will, my guess, most won't.
Question: How much should a plasterer charge? We want a small wall plastering - 2m x 1m. We live up North in Blackburn. How much do you think it would cost?
thanks
Answer: No matter what size of wall you want done, it still takes 1½ to 2 hours for the plaster to set to polish up. Most plasterers charge £150 a day and would prob want half that plus the cost of board or multi finish.
Different kettle of fish if it's bare brick or block.
Question: How much would a plasterer in London charge to repair an area on the ceiling totalling about 2 metres square? If you are wondering if I was the one asking 2 quick questions about plastering yesterday, the answer is yes. I have somewhat lost the confidence to do it. Despite having read the appropriate chapters in 4 or 5 DIY books I found in the answers to my previous question that everything you need to know isn't quite in those books. For example, I never once read that a coat of pva is necessary when using Universal One-Coat Plaster yet it appears to be strong recommendation of some of you . I am therefore now wavering on the DIY approach. So that I don't make a fool of myself when getting quotes, if anybody has any idea how much I should expect to pay to get in a professional in London to plaster a patch on my concrete ceiling I would be very grateful.
Answer: Our plasterer gets £130 a day if that helps, bloody plasterers messy bugers!
Question: How much roughly does a plasterer cost for the day, in Southeast England?
Answer: Well I'm a plasterer up north and i charge 140 pounds a day.
Question: Does anyone know a good plasterer for our basement walls in wellesley ? The walls have been blueboarded. I used 20 sheets to complete the job inclusive of the ceilings. The room is a bout 380 square feet.
