Question: why does a glazier only put a slight scratch on the glass when cutting with a diamond cutter?

Question: Need container to recycle glass at an industrial glass co- Ideas? Hi! I work for a glazier/ glass contractor in Culver City, West Laos Angeles. I want to start a recycling program at work- as of now the company throws it away! I'd need a large container for us to put huge pieces of glass into and have hauled away. It would be ideal if we could make some money back from the recycling...I think my boss would be more on board. Any Ideas?? Thanks

Answer: Scrap glass taken from the glass manufacturing process, called cullet, has been internally recycled for years. The scrap glass is economical to use as a raw material because it melts at lower temperatures than other raw materials, thus saving fuel and operating costs. Glass that is to be recycled must be relatively free from impurities and sorted by color. Glass containers are the most commonly recycled form of glass, and their colors are flint (clear), amber (brown), and green. Other glass, such as window glass, pottery, and cooking utensils, are considered contaminants because they have different compositions than glass used in containers. The recycled glass is melted in a furnace and formed into new products. Glass containers make up 90 percent of the total glass used in the United States. The 2000 recycling rate for glass was about 23 percent. Other uses for recycled glass include glass art and decorative tiles. Cullet mixed with asphalt forms a paving material called glassphalt. .

Answer: Since you don't state the type, IE: Fish or terrarium, we can only assume. Window pane glass would not be appropriate in either case. Certainly the suggestions about a glass shop/supplier would be the place to start, and depending on your budget, obviously something custom could be fabricated

Question: How much would replacement glass in front door cost? Our glass pane is cracked on our front door. It's just a basic wood door and the glass pane is the average vertical rectangle with rounded edges. If I called a glazier, would they fit it too? Just wondering how much it would cost because I have NO IDEA what to expect and wouldn't know if I was being ripped off. I would ideally want frosted glass. Thanks

Answer: I don't know what size you're after or your location but I had a stable door with a smallish pane of glass that was cracked. After being quoted £65+ (they didn't know for sure) I found a local glass-cutter who cut the glass while I waited and charged me a whole £6! He even gave me some putty and hey presto, a quick fix and job sorted! The business I found was called A. D. Plumb in Godmanchester, Cambridgeshire. He supplies the building trade normally, nice chap, very helpful and able to cut-while-u-wait any glass you need.

Question: Who do I get in contact with to get UPVC in between window frames instead of glass? As title. Don't know who to contact, don't think it will be glaziers? The UPVC will need to go in between the frame, where the glass currently is.

Answer: Any contractor that installs aluminum store fronts can do this for you.

Question: What is the name of the position for someone installing phone lines? My husband is looking for a job in the tele communication field as the person who installs new phone lines on the street or services them when hit by lightning...or installs them in peoples homes. He wants to work specifically for Verizon, but doesn't know the name of the position to search. Also if any advice could be given on moving from one union trade to another that would be awesome. He is in the Glaziers(glass) union now but wants to be with verizon which is a different trade but still union. Thanks

Question: Does anyone know a strong brand of cat flap? My cats keep having an argument with a big bully cat and end up breaking off the plastic door of the Cat Mate glass fitting cat flap. It is in a glass door so has to be glass fitting. I've looked at the Cat Mate magnetic ones but the hole needs to be bigger and I really don't want to get a whole new pane of glass from a glazier. Is there anything else anyone has tried or any kind of plastic curtain I could attach to keep the freezing wind out of my kitchen?
