Question: When having a kitchen fitted, does the gas fitter needed to come round twice or once? Might sound like a stupid Q, but when having a kitche fitted, does the gas fitter come to disconnect the old cooker then reconnent the new one in one journey?
Answer: Not sure about this one but obviously if the cooker is being moved to another position he will need to come once to remove the old cooker & maybe re route the gas supply to the new position & if the kitchen is ready to accept the new cooker then he could re fit it again all in one journey, otherwise I think he will need to come twice. If your cooker is staying where it is it might be fitted on a flexible bayonet hose type supply which is simply a case of ' unplugging' the bayonet hose put in the new cooker on the same system which could be done in one journey. As simple as that sounds I dont think that the new regulations allow a non corgi person to carry out that job though, so I would check first
Question: why are gas fitter and plumber paid so much they can make 500k in a year if theyre self employed? self employed gaz fitter and plumber can charge up to 250 per hour.if a gas fitter work 60 hour per week,he could make 750000 in a year.thats amazing ... gas fitting is the best job
Answer: because ppl NEED them and they can charge what ever they want its some bull but if you NEED it then you need it
Question: Having a gas stove delivered. Delivery people will not fully install the stove. Do we need a gas fitter? This is in Ontario Canada -- Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge area. The stove will be where the old owners had their gas stove. Do we need to get someone certified to connect the stove or can we do it ourselves?
Answer: It makes not much difference where you are, the folks delivering appliances won't do much more than just plug them in, as far as installation is concerned. This, however, is not rocket science, it does require some common sense. If the old installation was done with a flexible copper or stainless steel accordian looking pipe, hose, whichever you prefer to call it, with flared fittings on each end, then you very well could install it yourself, if you're handy with tools and have the proper ones. If you have a standard pipe coming out the back of the new range, you'll need to determine it's size and put the proper fitting on it to connect to the flexible line. If you have the old range, the proper fitting will probably be on it.. Take it off and put it on the new one. Connect the flex line end to the range, making sure it's still tight on the main feed line coming out of the floor and both fittings with a small brush dipped in a solution of liquid dish soap and water. Any leaks will show up as bubbles. No bubbles = no leaks.
Question: Gas Fitter Jobs In New Zealand Or Australia? my husband is currently a corgi registered gas meter fitter. we are looking to relocate in either N.Z or Australia. i wanted to find out if there are any job opportunities in this field over there?
Answer: These are the main gas companies in New Zealand (some of them are also electricity suppliers):
Some of them have employment contacts on their websites - but whether they do or not you might want to contact them directly to find out what the current employment situation is. Skilled trades people will usually find work in NZ.

Question: How much for gas fitter to take a look at my fire? The fire is two years old and the sliding switch on the side is broken, thats what we think, when its pushed down the flame will light but when we take our hands off switch it goes out.
Answer: Your thermocouple is bad. easy to replace.
Question: How does someone (who's qualified in another country) become a licenced Gas Fitter,(and/or plumber) in America Im a qualified Brithish plumber, and a quaified and licenced Brithish Gas Fitter. My wife is American and we're considering moving there (probably Chicago). So I'm wondering how or would I be able to get licences, also is it normal in America for someone to do plumbing and Gas Fitting. Is heating and cooling a seperate trade, or is it just the duct work a seperate trade (as in Europe).
Answer: I work for a plumbing construction co. You can apply as an apprentice and then take your state required boards to become certified.
Question: Do i need to get a certified gas fitter to fit gas into our new kitchen if the gas bottle is just a 9kg?? (we know someone who knows how to do it but his certification has lapsed).....
Answer: i guess you should be certified!!!!
Question: Can anybody recommend a Manchester-based CORGI gas-fitter for changing a cooker? Thanks in advance
Answer: Save yourself some money and do it yourself-I did.Its only a case of turning the gas off at the meter, unscrewing the cable from the old cooker, clean up and put some p.t.f.e.tape around the thread and join to the new.Check for any leaks by brushing a water and fairy liquid mix around the join if it bubbles then the connection is poor and needs redoing.
Good luck.
Question: What is the fiffrence between fitter and gas fitter ?
Answer: Firstly, remember that the term 'fitter' means just that, they only 'fit' new parts as opposed to fixing existing parts. As for the difference, a gas fitter fits parts relating to gas appliances, boilers, cookers etc and if you called relating to a problem involving one of these then there is no difference between fitter and gas fitter. But if you called a car garage you would get a motor fitter not a gas fitter.
Question: How much to fit gas fire by Corgi registered fitter? I currently have an old coal effect fire which was in the house when we bought it.
It doesnt work and needs to be replaced.
I have managed to get a fire near enough the same to be fitted in its place.
How much would it cost to have the old one removed and the new one installed?
I live in the west midlands.
Answer: whilst hellequin is about right please bear in mind that your chimney(if its an old property) may require some remedial work to bring it upto current standards and if you have a flue liner installed (or the new gas fire is recommended to be fitted with a flue liner) this will need to be re-newed. Please use a corgi registered fitter (you can check his credentials directly with corgi or ask to see his corgi card) as your new fire will need to be registered with corgi/building control.
Question: getting a new gas cooker can i install this myself or do i have to get a gas fitter? the cooker just has to be connected to the pipe on the wall via the bayonnet connection
Answer: It is an offence to tamper with gas unless you are Corgi Registered. Would you really want to risk you and your families lives just to save money?
Question: can someone tell me what a lic. gas fitter makes in ONT. Canada? Just curious if it `s worth getting back into the trade. Thanks
Answer: As always - it depends on your level of licensing and experience. Fitter 3 probably won't make much more than $15-$18/hr while a fitter 1 with a lot of boiler or roof-top experience might get union work, which has an overall package value of over $50/hr with cash alone at around $32/hr. Canadian labour are crying for experienced, (any really), people to work in the trades. I tell anyone who's undecided about what to do with their life to get into a trade. Any trade will do - a pipe trade, (plumber, gas fitter, steam fitter), will do better.
Question: ontario building code requires all offices be installed by a licensed gas gas fitter. gas fitter no licensed? the man who installed my furnace valve was not licensed and from a company. it is against the ontario building code. Is that illegal?
Answer: It's not the building code that this falls under...It is the Natural Gas & Propane Installation and Handling code. The installer should have attached a pressure test tag to the piping near the furnace upon completion of the installation. There should be the installers name on that tag. The TSSA is the authority having jurisdiction over all things propane and natural gas. I would contact them to A. See if these people are licenced. and B.Have them investigate the situation. They will probably want to come out and do an inspection.
The company supplying the fuel should have also done their own inspection. As the "provider of the hydro-carbon" they are ultimately responsible if there is an incident. They can be reached at Toll Free: 1-877-682-TSSA (8772) or 416-734-3300.
Question: where can i find a corgi registered gas fitter that doesn'charge £80 an hour in glasgow ???
Answer: it will be difficult, and most guys will work on day rate, unless you get them to price the job first..ring around and get a few quotes and ask around for anyone with a recommended gas fitter that they used before...a corgi certificate is only a foot in the door for some tradesmen and most will cause you a headache..your best bet is to ask a friend who works in construction to see if he knows someone who would do it as a nixer, hope you find someone, but don't just pick the cheapest guy, get references from them and check with corgi that they are still registered and not under investigation, don't take any chances with gas fitting, get it done right and it will be money well spent, take care
Question: Corgi gas fire fitter charges ? How much roughly would i expect to pay for a corgi gas fire fitter to fit a new flueless gas fire for me in the uk
The gas pipe is there so it is just a matter of some more pipe and fitting it up.
There is an air vent in the room
Answer: I thought I'd answered this but my posting got lost.
'An' air vent is not enough. Specific instructions by the manufacturer will dictate exactly where, how big and number of vents required. Often this is two, one high & one low of 50square cms each, not within 1 metre of appliance. Too close can 'fool' the safety device into thinking there is enough oxygen, even if the catalytic converter is not working properly.
These are absolutely critical as is minimum room volume (normally min of 30 cu metres)
There is virtually no such thing as just 'more pipe and fitting it up' - you must be absolutely sure that your CORGI fitter is 'fire' registered.
There is much concern in the industry amongst fitters about these fires since the death in Wales and subsequent prosecution.
Good luck and be safe.
Oh - and the price? Depends where you are and what other vents are needed etc....
Question: How much would it cost to have Gas Fire Fitted ? I have just brought a brand new Wall fire that fits on the wall , How much would it cost me to get Corgi Registered Gas fitter to fit it ?
Answer: A qualified heating engineer normally charges about £200 per day but it varies from place to place. The most significant factor in terms of cost is the distance from the gas meter and how difficult it is to connect to it. For example if the house has a solid floor and the meter is on the other side of the house you will probably have to run the pipe externally which is not ideal.
The other thing you have to bear in mind is the flue. Most modern gas appliances can be attached to a fan assisted flue which must be protected by a flue guard if it's less than 2m above the ground. On the other hand if there is a fireplace/chimney breast you can use this but you need to make sure that the flue is properly lined and that there is a flue terminal at the top - not just a chimney pot.
Hope this helps.
