Question: Do I need to hire a carpenter/contractor and someone to hook the gas up? We want to have a gas fireplace installed. When I called the store that sells and installs the fireplace, they said that all the framing and such would have to be done by a carpenter/contractor. They said that the labor fees that they charge are just for bringing the fireplace in, putting it where it needs to go, venting it, and getting it ready to be hooked up. So, does this mean I need to hire a carpenter/contractor AND someone to hook the gas up? Can a carpenter/contractor do the installation for me so I don't have to pay the fireplace store to do it?

Answer: Contact a licensed/insured mason who specializes in fireplaces to do the framing and the firebox. Get a gas-certified HVAC company or gas-certified plumber to hook up the gas. Call your insurance company, tell them what you're doing and get their input as to having it done correctly so that YOU aren't liable for any problem (fire, explosion, etc.) that might ever happen.

Question: How to get rid of Carpenter Ants in the grass? We don't have an ant problem inside the house. However, we do have a lot of carpenter ants in our grass in the front yard. We've tried the andro ant bait, and we've tried other insect control products for in the yard and nothing seems to work. Any suggestions???? We have NO ants in our home. If anything, they are in the walls somewhere. But, aside from that, how can you assume that they are residing in our home without inspecting yourself??? Just curious as to how you can come up with this.

Answer: MaltOmeal, corn meal or grits arouNd their holes will do it, They take this down in the hole and when they eat it they swell. If they come inside, baby powder will kill them. If they are in the walls, they will come out everywhere.

Question: How physically demanding is it to be a carpenter? I'm looking into a career change, and right now my number one choice is going through an apprenticeship to be a carpenter. Building houses has always fascinated me, and I think its something I would like to do, but the one thing that concerns me right now is how physically strenuous it is overall. Don't get me wrong, I'm in great shape from playing sports and working out at the gym, and perfectly capable of working hard. I prefer a job where I can be active. I'm even ok if there is an very exhausting day once in a while. I'm just concerned about the possibility that maybe 90% of my job might turn out to be packing heavy. back straining, stuff around all day long. Perhaps if you are a carpenter yourself, you can tell me the things you like most, and the things you like least. Thanks.

Answer: My father is a general contractor, and I've spent many days on jobsites with him. From what I've seen, it's quite strenuous. Days are normally 7am-4-5pm minimum. All of the materials (beams, plywood sheeting, shingles, etc) have to be moved by hand from where they came off the truck to where they will be assembled, and you do it. There are days where you are doing more detailed work (finishwork, etc), but I'd say most days are fairly challenging physically. Of course, you get used to it. There's nothing quite like seeing something that you built with your own hands.

Answer: Not enough that you would notice, however, here are some usage figures for 5 minutes of use: Drill 720W Saw 1520W Router 1200W Jig saw 660W Reciprocating saw 900W Battery charger 240W Giving you an approximate total usage of 5,240 watts in 30 minutes time, which, in Hawaii (highest elect. cost in the US) would reflect a cost of somewhere around $4.00 per month, based on 31 days of the same usage. Question: How to get rid of Carpenter Ants coming from the outside of my window? So a crap load of carpenter ants just keep coming (located near my windows in my basement) ive killed around 100 of them (just with tissue paper) and they just keep coming back... someone help me?

Answer: Chances are the nest will be located in a piece of wood such as a landscape timber. If you stress the ants, they'll just pack up and move. If you're in Yavapai County, Arizona, message me and we'll schedule an appointment to get rid of them.

Question: How to get rid of carpenter bees? Carpenter bees are drilling holes in the sides of my house.

Answer: i used a spray can of starting fluid and a propane torch to burn them while they fly. the flame shoots out about 10 feet.

Question: My bedroom is infested with carpenter ants, what is the best way to get rid of them? My family and I have tried to exterminate a bunch of carpenter ants which have decided to infest my room. Answer: Are you sure they are carpenter ants and not sugar ants? First remove everything from the cupboards and wash them down with bleach and water. Next along the edges apply the Raid or other gel. It quite expensive , but it works. Also, if you know someone with a stethescope, I would suggest listening to the walls and doors around the cupboards, if they are carpenter ants you will hear them chewing, especially at night. If this is the case, then you need an exterminator.
