Question: Bricklayer migrating to Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Brisbane any local contractors looking for good Brickie? Me and my family are aiming to arrive in Australia from the uk arround september. I was wondering if anyone knew of any contractors/Companies who are looking for a good Bricklayer. I have 20 years experience in the new homes and commercial Builds. Would also like an idea of how much per 1000 or day rate is being offered arround the Gold Coast Sunshine Coast or Brisbane areas. Willing to change area for a good start.
Answer: Since you are still in the UK - see http://www.workingin-australia.com - you can Register & Submit your CV online. (see link top right hand side)
I think you can do this also on the Australian Immigration website ..... some Australian job websites also let you post your CV online for employers.
Honestly though you will NOT have any trouble landing a job once you arrive - just head around to the major construction sites.
Question: How can I become a bricklayer apprentice? I'm looking for stable work, and I've decided that bricklaying seems to be the job for me. I don't have any training in it, though. I went to the bricklayers union website, and I can't find any information about apprenticeships. I live in New York City.
Answer: see if you can get a phone number for the bricklayers union local in your area, and tell them that you are interested in becoming a bricklayer. Ask them what you need to do to go about this, either that or see if you can talk to a couple of union general contractors, they might be able to point you in the right direction.
Question: Average price a bricklayer charges in UK? Can anyone tell me how much an average bricklayer charges to lay standard concrete blocks 300mm cavity wall construction. Its for a garage and I supply all materials so its for labour only. Any advice much appreciated.
Answer: call a few and ask,
Question: How many bricks should a bricklayer lay in a day when building a wall ? He dosent need to stop to mix the cement , he has a 'assistant' to do that....
Answer: This is an honest and accurate answer cause the rest of the people answering are idiots.... A good bricklayer can lay 750 bricks a day.
Question: what's the going daily rate for a bricklayer these days in the UK? I am looking to have 1500 4" concrete blocks (9"x18") laid. How many can the average brickie lay in a day?
Answer: It depends on the bricky and on what you intend on having built obviously a strait wall is a lot easier than say a garage but a good guide would be £1.00 - £1.20 per block if you were supplying sand and cement, and remember the cheapeast quote isn't always the best, get a recomendation from some one you know
Question: What is the average salary of an Apprentice Bricklayer in Australia? A certificate III in this field. Any good company you can recommemd me in Australia? Thanks.
Answer: It really depends if the company puts you on a Federal award wage or a State award wage, and differs slightly from state to state, so no one can give you a salary price.
As always apprentice money is not good, period, but yeah, everyone has to start somewhere to get a trade. (I know as my son is a painter apprentice)
Also depends on your age if you are classed as an Adult apprentice or a Junior.
You do get on top of your wage a tool allowance from the government and a 'top up' of around a grand a year.

Question: How can I become a bricklayer in the UK? I have no experience of bricklaying but it's always fascinated me- how should I go about training?
Thanks!
PS, I'm 22 and want to avoid going back to college if I can- but if I have to, I'll bite the bullet!
Answer: at 19 i decided as you have to become a brickie, so i left my job and signed on, then i applied for a training coarse it took every day for 6 months, to qualify but at the end of it i had 3 city and guild distinctions in brickwork and construction, but the only problem was that when i got a job on site they would only employ me as an improver, but it was all worth it, even though i don't do it now i was very good at it and had a company in germany and it opened a lot of doors for me, but be sure you can suffer the cold weather because the summer is one thing but the winters were sooooo cold, good luck
Question: What are the adavantages and disadvantages of having a career as a bricklayer?
Answer: Generally speaking it pays well.
Gotta work fast. On your feet all day and if you don't mind working outside year around. Plus don't forget union dues. Possibility of no work as well but overall I think it is a still a good trade.

Question: I have been a bricklayer for 20 years and have had enough. I like hands on, but don't know what to do? Can you give me suggestion's. I am 39 and don't mind working alone and like to be self employed by choice unless the right thing came along.
Answer: You would be a good massage therapist.
Question: I am only 12 and want to become a bricklayer or a carpenter? how can i become one of these? what tools will i need for both? which one will make more money out of? and should i make a business or join one?
Answer: Honey, you are only 12, and probably in the 6th or 7th grade. Ask your parents, that's what they are for. But you shouldn't have to worry about that until 4-5 years from now. Enjoy being a kid !!
Question: Bricks on my new addition don't match but the bricklayer said it takes 2 wks for the moisture to be removed? Is this the case?
Thank you for your response...The house is right over a year old. Do you think the clay could change that much that one is red and the other one has an orange tint? What would be the next step to match? Staining? Thanks
Answer: It is extremely difficult to match new bricks to old.Bricks ,as you know, are made of clay.A natural substance. When using brick ,one must be sure all bricks are of the same lot or batch because colors of clay can't be controlled.Even if the new brick came from the same manufacturer there is no guarantee the brick came from the same clay source.
It is very doubtful that you have a moisture issue. Your mason probably got as close as possible with the new brick .Color is really beyond his/her control.
Question: If I loosen my window, will the bricklayer need access to the inside of my house for any reason? I'm bricking a window in my bathroom up, as it would be in the shower. I need to get moving and would like to put the bath surround in. But I don't want to have to take it down should the bricklayer need inside. If I remove the screws, he wouldn't need inside, right? I'd ask him, but schedules conflict often...
Answer: A professional mason will have his own power. And the window can be taken out from the outside. He should not need to get into the house. But aren't you building an interior stud wall also?
