Question: How do I calculate an accurate quality control percentage? The information I'm working with:
#of jobs shipped out- 174, # of jobs I received feedback on- 69, # of jobs with quality control issues - 42.
In the past we'd just divided 42/174 to come up with our quality control percentage. We've recently noticed a big difference in respondents each month and would like to weight our percentage to take into account a variance in response.
How do i do this?
Answer: I don't really understand the question. If you have feedback on 69 jobs out of 174 and 42 of these 69 have issues, why would the percentage be 42/174 rather that 42/69?
Anyway, I think the distribution you are looking for is the binomial distribution. Given N jobs with feedback, K have issues and p=K/N.
In your case N=69, K=42, p=0.61. Then the variance is Np(1-p) or 69x0.61x0.39 = 16.4 in your case. When adding different months you have to weigh each entry with 1/variance.
An alternative presentation is to use a moving average over the last X months where you sum K and N separately over the last X months. X is chosen large enough, so that you are happy with the variance.
Question: What are examples of the elements of Quality Control System and the activities of analytical testing? Our company will be audited by European Medicines Agency this coming May. They asked, "What are the elements of our quality control system? What are the activities of analytical testing, packaging and component testing?" I have a hard time to understand the content of the questions. I was wondering they expect answers, such as calibration verification, and verification of method performance specifications for the first question, and evaluation of analytical methods for the second. If someone can give me some example, that would be a big help. Thanks.
Answer: Yes, you need help fast and this space does not contain enough room to answer everything that you need to get ready for – however, maybe I can get you started –
I am an IRCA QMS 2000 Lead Auditor and very much understand what is being ask!
First – reference materials that you should be aware of:
European Quality Award – http://www.efqm.org/
Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award – http://www.quality.nist.gov/
ISO – Quality Management System (QMS) 9000 series – http://www.iso.org/iso/home.htm
American Society for Quality (ASQ) – http://www.asq.org
The EFQM and Baldrige are quality awards – these look at the best of the best organizations.
ISO (International Organization for Standardization) standards (which is similar to what you are going through) is set up on a base level that any company or organization should be able to meet.
Your goal should be to get somewhere between what the standards are asking for and the top-level quality awards. The probability is that your organization is already doing a lot of thing very good – also called customer satisfaction.
Now for the quality control system (also called a quality management system). The ISO 9000 series breaks this up into five categories: Quality Manual; Quality Management; Resource Management; Product Realization and the Measurement System. The auditors want to first see what type of a documented system you have to control the overall processes for the business that you are in.
So if you are making some kind of a widget, how has your organization planned to produce what is wanted by the customer, the steps that are gone through to actually make the widget including any product testing of supplier parts or actual components and how the widgets are packaged, shipped and delivered to the customer so that no damage is done to the widget. Once all that is done, how do you know that the customer likes what you sold to them?
Ideally, what you need is some form of documentation (keep is as simple as possible) using the outline of the ISO 9001:2008 below

Question: What does Final Quality Control date mean for order status? I have this on my order status for my package that should be coming in in the next week.. What does this mean...Final Quality Control date 12/17/2008 4:52:13 PM?
Answer: It means that it went through the last check late this afternoon. You should get it by next week or the week after (don't count on shipments moving too fast next Thursday or Friday.)
Question: Is there any kind of quality control for checking mathematical answers? On at least 2 different occasions, I have seen bad answers given for mathematical problems. This seems like a buyer beware kind of site. It also reminds of an SNL skit of Jeopardy where the correct answer was not the one that won you the prize, the answer that won you the prize was the one the "popular" answer. I am wondering if there is any quality control on these answers? Can you appeal to someone and say that this is a bad answer?
Answer: i do agree with you
however that is the nature of the beast that unless it violates yahoo answers guidelines and common public decency then it is up to the asker to choose an answer for themselves
however i think that a good answer for maths wont be giving out just the answer but HOW to do the problem so that the person can learn HOW to do another one of the same ilk rather than merely parroting answers to their teacher/lecturer.
Question: Why is quantitative analysis important in quality control? Why is quantitative analysis important in quality control in pharmaceutical companies?
Answer: Some drugs are only ok in very small dosage levels. Quantitative analysis insures that all of the pills you are making have the same amount of active ingredient (the drug) in them to reduce the risk of side effects or drug interactions. Quantitative analysis also checks for other contaminates, so it is a way of measuring the safety of the drug in terms of other things that could be in it (trace metals, solvents, etc).
Question: URGENT What is quality assessment and quality control? I am doing systems and control GCSE and i have to do quality assessment and quality control... BUT i don't know what they are... please help!
Answer: you check a sample of the product for goodness
Question: Could you give me a job description of Quality Control in an RV factory? I have an interview tomarrow for a job that is really important. I am being interviewed for the position of Quality Control in an RV plant. Could you give me some idea of what the job entails so that I can go into the interview more prepared. Also, if you have any advice on how to make my interview go more smoothly, that would also help. I haven't had on in quite awhile because I have been at my current job for so long. Thanks!
Answer: INSPECTION OF PARTS MAKING SURE THERE ARE NO DEFECTS ARE REJECTS AND NOT PASSABLE YOU CAN DO THIS THEY HAVE INCOMING AND OUTGOING FINAL INSPECTION I DID THIS FOR A LONG TIME IF THEY NEED ANOTHER PERSON LET ME KNOW GOOD LUCK
Question: Julio works as a quality control expert in a beverage? Julio works as a quality control expert in a beverage
factory. The assembly line that he monitors produces about 20,000 bottles in a 24-hour period. Julio samples about 120 bottles an hour and rejects the line if he finds more than 1/50 of the sample to be defective. About how many defective bottles should Julio allow before rejecting the entire line?
Answer: I came up with 400.
But if Julio is working at a Beer bottling plant, then he probably will be totally wasted by the end of the second hour of work. Even if he is just sipping thats a 120 sips an hour. So if he works a normal 8 hour shift, and he passes out with 6 hours to go, that means there are going to be about 833.33 potential bad bottles of beer going out to be shipped every hour past the 2nd hour! thats just a damn shame is what that is. 5,000 bottles of beer going out to the unsuspecting public all because Julio couldn't hold down his liquor.
Question: Do you think SIGARMS have gone downhill in term of quality control? For those that fimiliar with SIGARMS products. Do you think they have gone downhill in terms of quality? Lately I've notice a lot of people (mostly LE officers) talk about poor quality control of SIGARMS.
It seem like the US branch of SIG isn't as high quality as the German branch (J.P. Sauer&Sohn)
Answer: I have never been a big fan of Sig.. But I have to agree they have gotten worse.
Question: How about quality control? It seems to me that large companies are spending less on quality control than they used to. Has anyone else noticed this? Any products in particular?
Answer: I am in manufacturing and we have actually seen in increase in quality control, especially implementing the toyota lean concept, which reduces waste, in overproduction, motion, inventory, transportation, and processes.
Question: What are quality assurance, quality planning, quality control,& what are there techniques & tools? I need to know the full details & exact defination of Quality Planning, Quality Assurance & Quality Control. Also the benefits of using each one of them, why should they be used in project management & the cost of each one of them when used. Also the tools & techniques used for implementing each item & the advantages & disadvantaes of each tool/technique.
Also if there are any sites covering my topic in full details
Answer: You cannot get all these answers online. You need to go to an academic library. You will find entire sections on each segment of your question. You need to distinguish tools, which is what you mostly read about, and the topic. A naive reader such as yourself will miss that each tool, such as Six Sigma, ISO or CMM, has assumptions that must be met but are usually not described well in their literature.
All of these have professional programs to train for implementation. I spent three years researching the questions you have asked. You need to find an industrial engineering department, find a quality assurance professor, and have them narrow down the topic to your very specific needs. Some tools, such as the CMM are industry specific. Others, while technically not industry specific don't work well in certain settings.
I suggest reading "Out of the Crisis," by W. Edwards Deming and "Quality is Free," by Philip Crosby.
Your question cannot be answered online because it is the equivalent of asking a physician, "what are the uses for an MRI machine, I need to know the full details ....," or an attorney, "what are the complete range of uses for arbitration, I need to know the full details...." There are excellent resources online, but you lack the background to use them as intended.
One note on "Out of the Crisis," the statistical techniques in the book are outdated. They were based upon pre-computer limitations and would not longer be considered valid in all cases because more appropriate techniques are available now.
Oh yes, you will need a good basic understanding of management science, behavioral psychology, statistics and a little process engineering wouldn't hurt either. All of these tools are about changing the behavior of the most senior level of management in order to permit the lowest level of the organization to change into something that is very effective.
