Question: How does Genomics, Proteomics and Bioinformatics help in Target Discovery? Like the title say, I would like to know how these helps in Target Discovery. Please be as clear as possible. I feel that the target is discovered based on "theory". For example if you have a heartbeat disorder, you probably want to target the calcium channel. Answer: From a simple point of view, both of the "omics" make use of bioinformatics to look at huge amounts of data; genomics for genes and proteomics for proteins. They can be used for Target Discovery in a variety of ways. One example would be to use siRNA (small interfering RNA) against one or more targets of your choice, then examine what happens to large numbers of genes and proteins, using gene arrays or mass spectrometry, respectively. There are many other possibilities; this is just one.
