Answer: It really depends on what they ask of you. Sometimes is as simple as a questionnaire. Sometimes, they want you to consume so they can do certain tests. Rest assured you will not walk into it without being fully informed of their intentions. There is no harm in checking it out because you can always say "NO!"
Good luck.

Question: Is it safe to volunteer for clinical research? My son is currently admitted to Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Boston being treated for manic episode. He suffers from biporal disorder (BPD). He is supposed to attend his MBA classes at JWU, Rhodes Island from Sept 5 and was living in Boston with some friends. I am in Nepal strggling to support my family and can not afford to support this son in his studies and medical bills. He does not have a medical insurance also. Uncer such circumstances, he being a typical case of a BPD patient can offer himself as volunteer for research in the field of BPD, and get his medical bills waived, because as I learned from their web site MGH is ranked no.1 in US in the field of psychiatry. I need some expert advice on how safe is it to offer yourself as ginea pig for clinical research?
Answer: Usually it's OK, but it can be dangerous. I'd be careful with it.
I think Massachusetts has a pretty good health insurance system, for people without money. The hospital should have a social worker who would know about that, and could help him sign up for it . If he's not a citizen, I'm not sure if he can get it, but it might still be worth looking into.
I'd check into other low-cost ways of getting care, too, before going the research route. Can he get it through his school? Or through a clinic? Sometimes doctors get free samples they can give out, or drug companies have programs where they give poor people free drugs.
Good luck- it's hard having to deal with something from so far away, and without money. Can you e-mail his hospital and ask to talk with a social worker? Or one of your son's doctors, caseworkers or therapists?

Question: i want to do msc in clinical research or pharmaceutical chemistry which has very good job opportunities? i have completed my bsc biotech, biochem and chemistry . soplz reply me i want to do msc in clinical research in icri institue of clinical research in india.
Answer: Chandra, it really depends where you want to work and what the situation is like at the time you're ready to look for a job. I have a PhD degree in organic chem, a MS degree in biochem, and I currently work for a biotech company in the US. I can definitely say that today, here in the US, the job market for pharmaceutical chemists is VERY bleak. Lots of jobs have been lost in the past year mostly due to the global economic crisis. This is because chemists are largely part of the discovery process and not the development, and discovery is always the first to feel the effects of tough economic times. On the other hand, clinical development is always a valuable commodity since new drugs will always be needed and the compounds that are being studied in this stage are closer to being FDA approved.
Of course this is just one man's opinion but I hope this helps!!! Good Luck!!!

Question: Can you enter clinical research in a science fair? For lack of a better way to phrase it, is clinical research too...boring... for a science fair? Will it not be appreciated?
Answer: You would have to make it a bit flashy to get people's attention.
They won't want to have to learn any background theories before they can enjoy the show.
I am sure there is some type of clinical research that would make an immediate impact with the audience, but remember they are there to have fun...

Answer: The most important consideration in your decision is the local, regional, national and international value and need of what you plan to do so that you can get a good steady employment and make best use of your skills, e.g., the medicine and related fields are always in demand especially nurses, doctors etc. It is a matter of pride that you want to study and progress in life. Keep it up and good luck.
