Question: What is outside sales? How tough is it? I want to eventually get into sales in the biotech field.? What should I expect from the job? How much money could I make for being an average salesperson?
Answer: Right there is the problem #1: "Average salesperson". Don't aim for it. You want to be the best. That is Job#1.
Outside sales can be very rewarding and enjoyable. It is very demanding too. Your work as a salesperson is performance oriented and very measurable. Unlike anyother employee in the company your work is monitored at all times. And, for a good reason because if you do not bring business, there is no business to work for. They have to shut the door and everyone goes home. That's it.
But if you do your work and bring business, they will literally worship you for it and get rewarded much more than you can expect to make as any other employee in the company. No negative thoughts should creep into your mind. There will be a lot of nay-sayers in the sales department. Just avoid them like plague. Stay focussed and you will do a good job and make a lot of money. Sky is the limit.
Because you will be making a lot of money there will be a lot jealous pots who will try to sabotage your work and not cooperate fully. So, you have to use a lot of tact inside the office too. Nobody ever said making money is easy.
Good luck.

Question: Question about investing in biotech stocks? Are the following two good reasons to invest in a biotech company?:
1) If the company has a diversified portfolio of drugs for sale.
2) If the company has a vast pipeline with many drugs in various phases that are being tested or developed.
Besides these two, what are other good reasons to invest in a biotech company?
Answer: Both of those are excellent pluses when looking into biotech stocks.
Preferably the company will also have a low(ish) PE, no major existing drugs that are going to go off patent in the near future, and a lot of cash lying around and not too much debt. A high return on equity is also nice.
Finding all of those attributes in one stock can be pretty tough though.
Question: I am interested in becoming a marketing manager for a biotech/pharm/med. device company. What is the path ? I graduated school with a b.s in biological sciences and minor in business. have had a few sales jobs since, but in the long run i want to be a marketing manager for a biotech company. who has taken this path? any ideas were to begin? should i start in sales? if so does it have to be in the biotech field? what would be a good starting position in a biotech company? some sort of assistant? thanks
Answer: start of in the operations to learn more about the product/service, then begin to move into the business field
Question: Should I switch to Sales? I currently work in drug development research for a biotech. Kinda getting bored working at the bench day in and out. Should I switch to pharmaceutical sales? Anyone working in the sales field have and good advice?
Answer: I spent 30 years in sales and now sell online. It is the highest paid profession with the lowest requirements for entry in the world.
If you are good, the sky is the linit, if you are not, you will starve.
If you are up to that challenge, then by all means go for it.
Question: How do I get a job in science as a genetics graduate? I finished my M.Sc in genetics 4 years ago and B.Sc in microbiology 6 years ago. Since then only job I found was telesales. last year I applied for volunteery role at a biotech company and they offered me a low paid job as a business development agent £8 per hour. I worked there 4 months, and then left the company because of downsizing.
I really want to enter pharma/biotech industry, and because I had many years (4), sales experience, the business development role was interesting. But I want to be employed with a real money at least £25-£30K, however they need more experience. Do you have any idea how I could use my scientific knowledge and get paid well? shall I lie in the interview and say I have more experience?
Answer: there is always teaching. OK it's hard work but if you do the GTP you get paid whilst you train and with your masters and work experiance you should start after your training year on point 2 (at least) on the pay scale. (£22,500 at the moment nearer £24,000 sep 2007, london area pays more)
Question: My friend is deciding to do a Masters in Biotech/Biology...? Hi! My friend has a BSc(Hons) in Biotech. He is a research assistant in oncology research at a university. He may want to work in the private industry, or do research for the meantime. He has no concrete plans yet. But he hopes to do something that is bio related. Should he pursue a M.Sc in Bio?
Or should he continue working first and determine whether he likes research? he says having a PhD in bio is too specialised and may be over qualified for many jobs.
He has been a medical drug sales representative before.
Answer: If he really loves doing lab work research, by all means get the Masters in Bio, and consider going on to the PhD in bio later.
However, if what he truly wants is to be a manager in private industry, an MBA would give him a better head start.
You can see that it really depends upon what his long term goals are.
Question: Who would vote for Mitt Romney on his record? I have finally, after extensive research found part of his record. Wow, what a record.!! I am posting my findings with this question for those who doesn't like to open web sites.

Straight Talk Detour: McCain On Republican Vote Totals

McCain Falsely Claimed That He Won Among Republicans In NH And SC
In Tonight's Debate, Sen. McCain Falsely Claimed That He Won The Republican Vote In Both New Hampshire And South Carolina:
MCCAIN: "But Look, I Won The Majority Of Republican Vote In Both New Hampshire And South Carolina." (MSNBC, [Unverified Transcript], Republican Presidential Candidate Debate, Boca Raton, FL, 1/24/08)
However, Sen. McCain Lost In Both New Hampshire And South Carolina Among Self-Identified Conservatives And Republicans :
McCain Lost Among Self-Identified Republicans In New Hampshire. "In New Hampshire, a state McCain had won in 2000 and lavished time and attention on this time around, he lost self-identified Republicans narrowly -- 35 percent to 34 percent -- to former governor Mitt Romney. But, it was among independents where McCain's winning margin came as he won that bloc by 13 points over Romney." (Chris Cillizza, "McCain And The Closed Primary Challenge," Washington Post's The Fix, http://blog.washingtonpost.com/, 1/24/08)
McCain Lost Among Republicans In South Carolina. "In South Carolina, McCain lost Republicans by a statistically insignificant margin, but carried independents by a massive 42 percent to 25 percent margin -- ensuring his narrow three-point victory." (Chris Cillizza, "McCain And The Closed Primary Challenge," Washington Post's The Fix, http://blog.washingtonpost.com/,1/24/08)
Conservatives Are Wary Of McCain's Past Tendencies And Willingness To Team Up With Liberal Senators. "McCain has long had difficulty currying favor from his party's conservative wing. Despite his solid voting record in the senate, many ardent Republicans have been unhappy with his past willingness to team up with liberal Sens. Russ Feingold on campaign finance reform and Ted Kennedy on immigration." (Alexander Mooney, "McCain Brushes Aside Suggestion Of Weak Republican Support," http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/200… 1/20/08)
"Support from the base will be crucial in upcoming contests: McCain now faces a bevy of state primaries where independents are not allowed to participate, beginning with Florida's vote on January 29. But the Arizona senator is predicting that his support among veterans, his economic proposals, and his record on environmental issues important to many Floridians will carry him to victory there." (Alexander Mooney, "McCain Brushes Aside Suggestion Of Weak Republican Support," http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/200… 1/20/08)

I have one prescription that costs more than the insurance cost in Mass.
Answer: I would. In terms of economic policies, he is very smart. As a fiscal conservative, he impresses me with his limiting government, pro-individual stances.
Question: Internship , projects in pharma industry ? I would like to know if i can do internship or few months project in any phrama / biotech / healthcare company ? Are there any companies who give such opportunities ?
I am MBA from India and have 5 yrs work experince in pharma product management. i have 2 yrs sales experince as well. I got married and came to NYC. Currently unemployed.
I have been applying to various companies but no success yet.So wondering whether i can do internship or a project or a part time job , which will help me entering in pharma industry.
Answer: Probably not. Internship are usually reserved for students or recent graduates in order to GAIN work experience. It sounds like you already have it. You will just have to keep applying for jobs and hope for the best.
Answer: I used to be you!
If you want a job in pharma (sales) get in touch with Innovex, Futures or any one of the specialist recruitment companies. Another excellent place to start is the Pharma Times website which has loads of links and information on getting into the industry.
There are lots of companies shedding staff at the moment so you will need to be good and well prepared for interview. NEVER lie at interview. We can smell it on you at interview and you would not last 5 minutes. Despite what the papers say, this industry is founded on integrity as there are people's lives at risk. Any whiff of bull and your feet will not touch the ground.
Good luck. In pharma sales you should get your target salary in the first couple of years, but you have to earn it.
