Could biostatistician(with master degree) apply for GreenCard as EB2? Cause lots of jobs requires at least master degree to work.
Answer: Besides the qualifications you would need a minimum of five years experience in the field.
There are three types of EB-2 Visas.
EB-2(A): This category is for foreign nationals professionals with an 'advanced degrees' (masters degree or higher) and with a job offer from a U.S. company
EB-2(B): This category is for foreign nationals with 'exceptional ability' in the sciences, business or arts and with a job offer from a U.S. company
EB-2(C): This category is for foreign nationals with exceptional ability, or an advanced degree, who can show that their activities will substantially benefit the U.S. national interest
A petition for a foreign professional holding an advanced degree may be filed when the job requires an advanced degree (beyond the baccalaureate) and the alien possesses such a degree or the equivalent.
~The petition must include documentation, such as an official academic record showing that the alien has a U.S. advanced degree or a foreign equivalent degree, or an official academic record showing that the alien has a U.S. baccalaureate degree or a foreign equivalent degree and letters from current or former employers showing that the alien has at least 5 years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience in the specialty.

Question: Has anyone here read the book "Snake Oil Science: The Truth about Complementary and Alternative Medicine"? To sum it up, the author, R. Barker Bausell PhD, citing many scientific studies, claims almost all alternative medicine is unproven or useless, in his words "CAM therapies are nothing more than cleverly packaged placebos". If they ever help anyone, that is because of the placebo effect. If you have read this book or not, your thoughts on this?
The author, R. Barker Bausell, is a biostatistician, author and Senior Research Methodologist at the University of Maryland.

Answer: Hi Aegimius, though I have not read this particular book, I feel that I can comment because I've read many similar ones, many medical studies and have a good understanding of the scientific method.
Basically this is a science-based book, not a belief based one. The claims made that many Alt Meds are "unproven or useless", are generally agreed upon by the scientific and medical community. The scientific community required evidence of efficacy and thus they do studies. If enough studies come back negative, a consensus opinion in formed, as in this case.
I'll hasten to add that no one is saying that all Alt Med is useless.
This is bound to cause issues amongst Alt Med users, but this is a book based on evidence. If an Alt Med treatment does not have sufficient evidence, it has no place being sold as real medicine.
It'd be great if Alt Med users could read books like this because they'd have more information at their disposal to make decisions. People should never be afraid of learning about opposing views, it can only enhance your knowledge on the subject.
Question: Mathematics Education and Biostatistics - Advantages? I am currently a undergraduate freshman majoring in Mathematics Education. I understand that in some schools, you have to major in one field and minor in the other, but my school offers a combined major.
While I am convinced that I want to teach, I do not want to ever be trapped in that field should something change.
Teachers are required to get their Masters degree in order to achieve the highest level of licensure. Instead of getting an MA in mathematics, I was considering doing something a bit different - getting an MA in biostatistics.
I was wondering what the advantages to this approach are. Will I be able to work as a biostatistician with those two degrees (BS in Mathematics Education, MA in Biostatistics) should I ever want to make a career change?
Answer: The MA in biostatistics will allow opportunities in biotech companies and pharmaceuticals. The MA in Mathematics will open up more engineering type of companies.
Question: Health Care job in Singapore with Biostat? Hi, I'm a student who's going to study biostatistics in Graduate school in USA (master degree). I want to get a job in Singapore.
I know Singapore's health care industry is grown and government invests a lot of money of BT(bio tech).
But, is a demand for biostatistics and epidemiology job high enough for me to get a job? Biostat industry mostly is focused on USA. So, like country where I'm from (Korea), has almost no demand for biostatistician. I want to know about Singapore. I want to pursue Master of Public Health concetration with biostat and epidemiology
Plz let me know
thanks in advance
Answer: Is in demand now ! but who know ? after two year ? . maybe post this Question after your master degree. even there is jobs now, what can you do ?if there need only master degree in bio-statistics . or after 2 year, USA need more Professional in that area.
