Question: Anyone know any colleges or what courses I need to become a director of TV commercials? I want to go to college to study and get a degree to become to director of TV commercials.
Anyone know any colleges or what courses I need?
thank you ;)
Answer: In the United States, there are several great schools:
Boston University has a wonderful program, I think it is called the Center for Digital Art and Imaging. It is very hands on for that field.
You should also look at NYU and Northwestern.
Good luck.
Question: On any TV production, what are the roles and responsibilites of a producer and a director? can anyone tell me what is the difference between a Producer and a Director in a tv show or a movie?
Answer: Producers are entrepreneurs, overseeing the business and financial decisions of a motion picture, made-for-television feature, or stage production. They select scripts, approve the development of ideas for the production, arrange financing, and determine the size and cost of the endeavor. Producers hire or approve the selection of directors, principal cast members, and key production staff members. They also negotiate contracts with artistic and design personnel in accordance with collective bargaining agreements and guarantee payment of salaries, rent, and other expenses. Television and radio producers determine which programs, episodes, or news segments get aired. They may research material, write scripts, and oversee the production of individual pieces. Producers in any medium coordinate the activities of writers, directors, managers, and agents to ensure that each project stays on schedule and within budget.
Directors are responsible for the creative decisions of a production. They interpret scripts, express concepts to set and costume designers, audition and select cast members, conduct rehearsals, and direct the work of cast and crew. They approve the design elements of a production, including the sets, costumes, choreography, and music. Assistant directors cue the performers and technicians to make entrances or to make light, sound, or set changes.

Question: How much can I make in NYC as a 10 year experienced TV/Video Producer/Director? I've always loved NYC and has visited numerous times. I've been wanting to move there and live in the city for the past 5 years. But, I always hestitated because of how little you get for a lot of money. I don't have kids and I love fast paste, but I like luxury lifestyle.
Can I make at least $60,000 in Video & TV Production industry in NYC?
Answer: you can definately make that and more, but you have to "pay your dues" so to speak. there is a lot of competition in this town, and as a newbie, you will have to make certain sacrifices to afford to live here at first
Forget the luxury lifestyle, your main concern will be rent and making ends meet a first. but once you become established, slowly you will climb up the ladder of success and honestly, in NYC there is no top rung!
Not having kids is good too, nothing will hold you back from full throttle effort. you need to bring your A+ game if you want to achieve the level of success you desire, but it can be done
Question: How do you talk to a director of a TV show? I have a great story that I would love to make a spin off of Moonlight but I don't know how to get ahold of the directors or writers of the show? Should I email or call? Or just go there which would be a problem because I live in Canada and they're in LA.
Answer: first email them and after he said he is intrested about you and your idea then hold one phone call that is PLANNED with both of you and make sure no interuptions for you. After you people have a converstation and i mean he really has to like your idea for you to go and meet him for a meeting
GOOD LUCK [:
Question: I want to become a film director (not for TV though). How can I get my foot in the door? I have no training/experience but I definitely have the passion and interest in it.
Do directors typically struggle financially (on a personal level) in the beginning of their career? I don't have unrealistic expectations but I don't want to be struggling for years either.
Your input is appreciated
Thanks
Answer: If your not up for a long struggle, then this isn't the industry for you. People for some reason have the misconception that being a director is somehow easy or more attainable than being a successful actress or rockstar- the odds are about the same.
If you want to be a director, you need to go to film school anymore- people like Rodriguez are the exception and not the rule- 99% of directors are educated people who paid their dues in film school. School is what hopefully gets you the foot in the door.
Then the real struggle- and yes you will struggle financially. Most directors first few films are paid for by credit cards and wealthy relatives they can beg- and most never get the money back.
But if you have enough vision and drive you'll make you can make it happen.
Question: How come since I wrote the movie (Its author) the director claims on TV that she is the auteur? I don't care what people with names like Truffaut and Sarris say, the writer is the author and it's time to climb the greasy pole. No, not Polanski.
Answer: because auteur does not mean writer, it means "visual creator." thus the director of a movie is the visual creator as the movie is being shot in that person's vision. I'm not saying it isn't difficult writing a screenplay, but the director is the one who brings the story to life, hence why they deserve the title as auteur.
Question: I wan't to be a future film/tv director, can you help? I would like to know what courses are recomended. Also how can i get started (job wise). Thanks for your help
Answer: Go to film school, they'll have the courses. And from there, you can get what you need to start your career.
Question: what do you think of a job as a TV programmer/program director? My 2 picks is
TV programmer/program director or
advertising
where should i go to college. My ultimate goal is be like head of tv programming of a tv network. or like head of drama or comedy, how should i get started....im only high school soph.
any commentS??
Answer: Being a programming director sounds pretty cool, I would love to be in charge of planning the schedule for a major network! I really don't know how to get started in this career path but I don't know if these sorts of executives go to college or work at lower levels in the industry to gain experience. Something to check out, but I'm sure someone will have the answer. Since your still in Highschool you have time to find out what it takes to get into the industry. If I were you I would try to join a drama club at your school and/or take part in school and community plays or musical to get your feet wet. If you are uncomfortable on stage I'm sure that managers, stage hands, etc.. are always needed. This may be your best bet anyway because it sounds like you want to be working 'behind the camera' anyway. Best of luck and I hope this helps....
Question: Classes for becoming a tv writer/director? I'm 18 and I start college in a couple months. I want to become a writer/director for a comedy tv show and I do not know what classes would be beneficial to me for this. Does anybody know what classes would be best for me to take?
Answer: Where do you want to go to school? That should be your first question. Producing classes are good to take for background, scriptwriting classes, lots of writing classes in general, entertainment management classes even. There are lots. The best schools for something like that is probably NYU Tisch, Yale Drama, USC if you're looking for a degree. If you just want to take random classes, look into google and search for them in your area.
Question: What is the average salary of being a Director? (of films and movies and tv shows)? Also, why do you think it is important for there to be a director in the production of a film? Or do you think it is NOT important for there to be a director? thanks!! :)
Answer: I've seen some directors do it for free, on a local level that is. So the money can range from low to high. You have to love directing, and not just interested in becoming rich and famous. A director plays an important role after being hired by the producer. To learn more, try reading this:

Question: what qualifications do i need to be a director in the tv and movie industry?
Answer: Go to school and major in film studies. There are many different majors that can prepare you for directing.
Many universities offer this, or you can go to an art school that offers it. My friend is currently studying at the Art Institute of California to become a director.
Question: I want to know how do I become a casting director or scout for TV or film? Is an Associate degree enough?
Answer: Yeah, any degree is enough, get the experience or a internship and learn the ropes and meet as many people as possible, because who you know can help you go far!!! Go to L.A. IN THIS FIELD YOU HAVE TO NETWORK AND KEEP NETWORKING.you need to join forums or website that has information on Entertainment event and I telling you, you can get started from there networking. Warning you may meet some bad apples with the good apples but that is life! you know how to pick them.
