Question: What plays/playwrights do you not have to pay royalties or get rights to do? Hello, my women's theatre organization at USC is trying to get the rights for Catholic School Girls, but there has been some issues and it is certainly not guarenteed. We don't have time to apply for another show, so what shows could we do that don't require royalties and rights? I know Shakespeare and classical Greek works, but how about Oscar Wilde? Or any other playwrights that are slightly more modern than Shakespeare? Anything would help. Thanks.
Answer: Gilbert and Sullivan operettas are public domain, but they do require you to buy your own scores.
Question: How do I get the Rights and Royalties to Rod Serling's Scripts? I found the scripts to two episodes of the twilight zone which I wish to direct at my school. This is my first time directing and im a student director. How do i get and pay these rights? Who do I contact? help...?
Answer: Try CBS, or Cayuga Productions.
It is just possible that rights can be obtained from DPS or Samuel French, but I confess I simply do not know.
If the production is going to be mounted for a school class, do not worry about obtaining rights. Frankly, the copyright holder couldn't care less.
Which scripts are you doing? I am a long-time TZ geek, and can give you insights. Email me at my Yahoo addy.

Question: I was asked to sell my Louisiana Oil & Gas royalties (royalty interest) & mineral rights. Is this a good idea I own a tract of land in North Louisiana, there has never been much production around my property. I have been offered a nice amount of money to sell my mineral rights and my royalty interest. Should I sell my Oil & Gas royalties?
Answer: A good offer should compensate for at least 90 months of potential future income. You can contact the department of natural resources and they can help you research production near your property. With so much uncertainty with Oil & Gas exploration, it is hard to pass up guaranteed money. You never know if they will drill a good well. You can also sell a percentage of your interest now, keep the rest and see what happens. A good offer will compensate you enough that even if they drill a good well, you have many years of advanced royalties in the bank. Selling in Louisiana always has great tax advantages (as opposed to accruing royalty), this makes the offer that much more appealing. Do your research. People who invest in speculative mineral rights (no history of production) take huge gambles. Keep in mind, even if they plan to drill a well, it can be years before you receive any payment from the well. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. GOOD LUCK!
Question: Who gets paid everytime a DVD is sold?Who invented it and does he own the rights and some of the royalties? Who gets paid everytime a DVD is sold?Who invented it and does he own the rights and some of the royalties?
Who actually trademarks DVD?
Well Im sure there was one guy or girl sitting at their house that invented this format, and so if say they had it patent. They unless they sold the rights would have to be paid right.
Answer: No one really owns the rights. It's a standard that was put together by a group of computer industry experts from several companies.
Question: If you co-author a book and someone else pays for the publishing do you still have rights to some royalties? ...for example if the total profit from the book is 20,000 dollars and the person who payed for the publishing to occur spent around 5,300 dollars... following the reimbursement of the person who payed the publisher, who legally recieves the remaining 14,700 dollars, assuming that there are 16 co-authors of the book?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Answer: Sounds to me as if this is the time to look into some contracts with some folks. Publishing with a private party is a contractual agreement and though there may not be some "hard" rules concerning it, it's pretty much how the two of you decide the "who gets how much?" of the project.
Question: I need to find rights and royalties for the play"Our American Cousin" where could I find these?
Answer: Sorry if I have to chuckle at the previous "answer"..."Our American Cousin" is the play Lincoln was watching when he was shot. It was written in the 1850s, and you can perform it for free any time you like, no rights, no royalties--it's public domain. If you need to find a copy, you can download it from Project Gutenberg at the link below. I'd say "have fun", but it's a pretty dated play. Even so...have fun...
Question: how much are the rights and royalties to Into the Woods the Musical?
Answer: It varies, based on how many people the venue seats, how many performances you're putting on, how much you're charging for tickets. Go to www.mtishows.com and you'll find more information :)
Question: can i sell the rights to my idea and stil get royalties? i have a new invention and want to sell it to playtex.do i sell the rights or idea or patent or what can i sell them so that i stil get royalties.
Answer: Sure you can. It just depends on what kind of deal you make with whomever buys the rights.
You could sell it for a big lump sum, or for a smaller lump sum plus royalties. Do what you think is best.
Question: are there any rights or royalties to perform Romeo and Juliet?
Answer: No, Shakespeare is absolutely free to perform. Plays automatically become public domain (meaning no royalties are required) after about a hundred years. Shakespeare has been around for several hundred years, so all of his work is public domain.
Question: Do I need to get royalty rights or something in order to make and sell a craft using famous movie quotes? I want to make and sell a craft that has the words of famous movie quotes printed on the craft. Since I'm not using a picture of a character and not using any names do I still need to get permission, royalty rights, give a cut to someone? Where do I get info or get in touch with each movie person?
Answer: Most celebrities and Hollywood producers are registered at famousmoviequotesonhomemadecrafts.com, where you can find their cell phone numbers and work out a deal directly with them.
Fine, a serious answer: if the quote is short (say, 10 words or less, although there's no actual numeric standard), then it counts as "fair use" under the federal copyright law, and you don't need anyone's permission (or have to pay anyone) to use it .
