Question: Interior Design? I'm a sophmore in high school and I want to go to the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and major in Interior Design.
Does anyone go there and could tell me anything?
What is the highest math I should take, and what sciences should I take? I'm in Algebra 2 right now and I can either go on to Pre-Cal and Calculus or take Trigonometry and Senior Math. ( very leaning towards trig and senior math, i hate math ) but I want to be the best at my career.
Any advice of anything having to do with Interior Design is appreciated!
Thanks in advance.
Answer: I used to be an interior design major (at the University of Oklahoma, not Art Institute.) I can offer some advice, however. Serious Interior Design programs require skills in math (which you have) and visual arts. If you hate Geometry, you will not like it. Everything in Interior Design requires Geometry. The program at my school required drawing up blueprints like an architect as well as 3-D models and using software to create blueprints and 3-D models. (these did the math for you) If you choose to do it, it is fun if you love it. It will take up all of your free time however. Good luck!
Question: Interior design ideas for a working British style Phone Booth (the red one) into a living/rec. room? I once saw a working phone booth, with door and all, incorporated into a living room in an interior design magazine. I am currently planning designs for my basement-party-lounge room, and think this design element would be a great conversation piece for guests. (also serves a purpose) Please post any links to articles or pictures of something similar to this, thanks!
Answer: You can do anything you want design wise as long as you are able and willing to pay for it. I think the concept would be great fun in a rec room but not a living room. If you can find one all you would have to do is have it wired to your telephone lines.
Question: where can i good interior design images on the net? im tryin to get some good interior design ideas, but i only find books ion interior designs. If any61 knw where to find it, please do let me knw. thank you.
Answer: hgtv.com
Question: How do you go about starting an interior design business? I haven't done any research or anything, so don't come down on me too hard for asking.
My degree is in Architecture but I have always been more interested in interior & kitchen design, plus you don't need a license to practice interior design in the US.
Any thoughts, resources?
And where do designers get those enormous design catalogues from? (think Candice Olson from Divine Design) Manufacturers?
Hi, I live in NY state. We don't need one here, as far as I know.
Answer: Depending on where you live, you WILL need a license to call yourself an interior designer. You may also need a license to have an interior design company (I know you do in Texas). Maybe this will help:

As far as the catalogs, they come from the manufacturers. You usually have to prove that you are an interior designer to get one for free, else you may have to pay for them. You can contact the company who will put you in contact with a rep who will help you.
Question: How do i prepare a portfolio for college for interior design or design and management? i'm going into 11th grade, and i know i want to go to Parson's New School of Design to study interior design or design management.
How can i start now to build a portfolio for interior design or Design and management?
what should be included?
Answer: All applicants must submit a portfolio consisting of 8 to 12 pieces of work including, but not limited to, drawings, paintings, photographs, digital media, or design.
And they strongly discourage doing portfolio on your major only.
For eg. (and obviously for interior design you need to do perspective, having lot of bunch of interiors of building is NOT recommended by them
For design and management they say: drawing, video, photography, animation, or websites, blogs, videogame mods or other media are applicable. Beside the Above.
What i found interesting in Parsons compare to other design schools is that, they really want you to be able to draw well. Take art courses in school, and work some perspective/interior at home.
(different mediums too!, doing all pencil is just.., boring and bad)
interior design at parsons is hard, i wish you the best of luck.
Question: How can I prepare myself for interior design in college? I am a sophomore in high school who is looking to pursue a career in interior design. Next school year, I am taking an interior design class. But I feel that it will not be enough. How can I fully prepare myself for whatlies ahead of me in college.
Sort of irrelevant but:
For college I would love to attend either the Cleveland Institute of Art, or Syracuse University. If you can give me any other suggestions, that would be extremely helpful.
Answer: the best help you can get for any career in try to get an internship somewhere because they will work with you to not only teach you but to help you gain experience. plus it will give you a glimpse of reality if that is really the career that you want. because who knows you might start doing it and hate it.
Question: Please help me interior design n decorate a home for a newly wed?Has to be super hot.? My dears, I have to interior design a bedroom for newly weds and it has to be something not so cliche' rather sexy .Can you please throw in some great ideas or website links will be much appreciated.
Answer: Hi this website has a photo gallery of different kinds of interior design and maybe here you can find some ideas to help you out :) good luck! http://www.newyorkgeneralcontractor.com/…
Question: Do you need an MA in interior design in order to work as a preoffessional interior designer? I have a BA in architecture, with experience in interior design. The question is, would I need to qualify in order to become a professional interior designer?
I live and work in the UK btw.
Thanks in advance for all your tips and advice.
Answer: don't know about the UK but in the US once i completed my masters i took the exam in my state to obtain my PID license, i also hold a bachelors engineering degree but found interior design to be my calling and have owned and operated my own firm (very successful i may add)in NYC for 25+ yrs. now If that's where your heart is follow your dream! I know I'm in the US but if i can assist you in any way i'd be glad to help
Question: Do you think my niche in interior design for children with green design a good specialty? I have an business in interior design and decorative painting. I have recently decided to specialize in children's decor from the nursery to teen-age retreat with an emphasis on eco-friendly products that are organic and all natural. I am a full service design studio, but wanted to be set apart from the rest. What do you think?
Answer: This is a smart marketing move. The group probably most concerned with the environment are the parents of your target group and eco-friendly is no longer a fad or a trend but a part of our everyday lives.
Greenspun lives.
Question: Can you do interior design in Virginia without a certification? I designed a room for a friend, and they ended up loving it, showing it to their friends, and now I have two more potential clients who want me to design rooms for them. I don't want to continue with this hobby until I know for sure if I legally can. I live in Virginia, so can I legally do interior design without a certification? Thanks! I'll choose a best answer!
Answer: Hmmm...I'd check with the state consumer affairs dept., if they have one. New Jersey does. You might be able to call yourself something else that makes it clear it is your hobby, not a licensed profession.
Maybe, Room Artist. Picture painters don't need to be licensed. They are called artists. You are an artist at rooms.
