Question: Did Harry Callas have a career as a player before he became an announcer? That's it. Did Harry Callas have a career as a player before he became an announcer?
Thanks.
Interestingly, I was not sure how to spell Harry's last name, and I did a search using Callas first. I got 43 specific references from places like USA Today, Cinncinnati Post, PaulRichardson.com (!!!), Fox News and others spelling it "Callas." Such as, "Legendary Phillies broadcaster Harry Callas reminded fans that Vukovich began his career 41 years ago in Clearwater. Vukovich, a first-round draft pick of ... "
Yet, when I search for "Harry Kalas," I get over 2,000 hits. I am surprised at the confusion.
Answer: Assuming you are talking about the Phillies announcer, Kalas, no, he did not.

Question: What Education do you have to have to be an announcer or interveiwer in a sport? I want to be an annoucer or interviewer for sports...
Mainly wrestling...
But i would like to do Softball..
or just any if i had the chance..
Im going to be in high school and i want to set my classes so i can learn up to when i go to college to go to school for the announcer or interviewer..
So what kind of things would i need to take for school?
and
Whats the Degree in college that would be good for those jobs?
thanks!
My Cousin use to work in the WWE, as like a backstage person, nothing big, but she still did it..
Do you think she would help?
Answer: You're going to want to go into broadcasting/communications, as well as choosing an athletic based minor. (I can't really give an example for this, sorry!) There are some really good schools out there, but I have one major piece of advice -- don't limit yourself to two sports. Especially two of the "less mainstream" sports. It is going to be important for you to know the rules/jargon for ALL sports, which will make you more marketable and more likely to find a job. Good luck!
Question: Who in your opinion is the most annoying Baseball reporter or announcer? Mines is Jeannie Zelasko from Fox. She is just so annoying . You can tell she's knows nothing half the time & is just reading lines & her attempts at humor are pathetic at best. And while i know many won't agree with this one i think Joe Buck is a bad Baseball announcer. He seems to care more about talking about Hollywood Celebrities a movie that he saw or trying to find which celebrity is at the game then to actually call a baseball game. Your thoughts & have a good day.
Answer: My original answer was Chris Berman. The stupid nickname thing and the "backbackbackback" were funny like 20 years ago.
ESPN used to have good anchors who just reported about the games...Berman was the first guy who thought it necessary to do his 'schtick', and now everyone on Sportcenter since has followed suit.
But Zelasko it is!
BTW to follow up on Zelasko - it was during the interview with Ernie Harwell, the long time Tigers announcer, during the All Star Game in Detroit, that she abruptedly cut Harwell off half way through one of his answers during a pre-game interview to 'send it back to the studio for a commercial break'. I remember thinking 'who does this b**ch think SHE is? She was incredibly rude to one of the great baseball announcers of all time.
So you're right...Even Chris Berman wouldn't have done THAT!

Question: What announcer's black-framed eyeglasses it into the baseball hall of fame? What announcer's black-framed eyeglasses it into the baseball hall of fame?
Answer: Harry Carey - Chicago Cubs broadcaster
Question: What do you think of the Mets new radio announcer? Wayne Hagin. He used to do Cardinals and Rockies games. Personally I don't like him so far, he doesn't complement Howie Rose at all. Howie's too good of an announcer to be with this guy.
Answer: your right he aint lindsey nelson, bob murphy or ralph kiner, they need to a buch of money at tim mccarver.
Question: What do you have to major in to become a sports announcer? What do you have to major in to become a sports announcer? What college and/or university is best for this major?
what do you have to major in to become a sports announcer, like those people on ESPN? What colleges have these courses. I mean US colleges
Answer: I don't know if you can go to school for that because most of them are has-been athletes.
Question: What do you think of Tony Gwynn as an announcer? I've heard him on ESPN before and now on TBS tonight and it occurred to me that I don't mind him as an announcer. I trust his baseball knowledge and while he doesn't do anything special really, he also doesn't do a lot of annoying crap. Which is pretty much a good announcer in my book, one who doesn't annoy me completely. What do you guys think about 'em?
Aye, his voice is, well... unique.
Answer: Overall I'd say he's pretty good, although he is frequently guilty of stating the obvious. But every announcer has had that happen to him at one time or another. He doesn't chime in on stupid comments that the other guys he's with always make and I respect him for that. I also respect his baseball knowledge and he seems like a guy who knows also about the sport and is willing to share it but is not conceited about it. I've heard people say he is biased but I personally haven't seen that in him. But besides Gwynn, I don't like TBS as network for baseball. I think they have tried much too hard in making the whole postseason a huge dramatic event and have thus taken away from the real emotion and feelings that you are used to seeing in players and fellow fans.
Question: What does the announcer say that the beginning of a boxing match? I have a report due in 4 hours, and I haven't started. Responsible right?
But I need to know exactly what the announcer says,
Something along the lines of, "In the red corner is Rocky Balboa weighing in at 300 pounds" and the thing of the bell.
anyone know exactly what they say?
and not in the new UFC boxing, traditional
Answer: introducing first.... from the red corner. weighing 175 pounds... he hails from pensacola florida, and was rated by many, as the best pound for best boxer of the last decade. with 52 wins, 38 of them coming by the way of knockout, and only 4 defeats. he is, the former middleweight champion, former, super middle weight champioin, former light heavyweight champion, and former HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD,
