Question: Is Law Clerk a good thing to take in college? Im thinking about signing up for the law clerk diploma program at my local college for sept 08. I weighed the pros and cons. Just want to know if anyone can add anything about what being a law clerk is like.
Answer: You do a great deal of research for lawyers. If you like research, then it's possibly something you would enjoy. Look at this "want ad" for a law clerk. It provides some helpful information. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/lgl/512089788.html
Question: is it ok to wear short sleeve shirts as a summer law clerk? I am working as a summer clerk in a law firm, where the avg temp will be about 25deg cel. I have been told by my friends to wear only long sleeves none the less. what do you think?

Question: Difference between legal assistant and law clerk? I'm Canadian and I graduated From a Law Clerk program. What is the difference between a law clerk and legal assistant? I personally don't believe their is one, however, other's do.
Answer: In most places in the US, a legal assistant is the same thing as a paralegal, so someone who has likely taken a 2 year course after high school. A law clerk is someone who is either in law school pursuing a JD, or in the case of a judicial law clerk, a JD who has passed the bar exam and is a full-fledged attorney who assists a judge with drafting opinions, etc.
Question: Difference between Law Clerk and Legal Secretary? What is the difference between a Law Clerk and Legal Secretary, what are the duties of each job and is there a diff. in pay?
Answer: A law clerk is usually someone who is in law school and working for a law firm/judge, etc. during the summer (or sometimes during the school year, part time). The law clerk is assigned to research and/or prepare legal opinions, pleadings, and/or discovery.
A legal secretary works for a law firm. She (usually the secretary is female) transcribes dictation, opens/sorts mail, makes copies, answers the phone, calendars deadlines, etc.
Yes, there is a difference in pay. Entry-level legal secretaries and law clerks can start out at the same rate, but the pay raises are not as good for legal secretaries.
Question: Is it possible to apply for law clerk position as a canadian in the us? I am graduating the lawclerk program at algonquin college, and i was wondering if its possible to work in the united states with my canadian diploma, or if i have to do any extra exams to be able to do that? or if there are some requirements.Thanks.
Answer: No please !! U.S. CITIZENSHIP IS REQUIRED to apply for law clerk position in US .
Question: Is Law Clerk Program Ontario Collage Difficult? I know this sounds a lame question. But i really want to go into the law field and basically i really want to become an attorney later on in life.... But since i took all applied coarses in High school and cant go to university. Is Lawyer way outta my league because i cant get into university?
Does Law Clerk Program give you chance to go into law school and become a lawyer.?
Answer: No. To become a fully licensed lawyer in Canada, you NEED to go to law school, and to go to law school, you NEED to have a bachelor's degree. So unless you go to university for 4 years, complete a bachelor's degree, write and score high on your LSAT, get admitted into law school, study for another 1-2 years, and then pass your bar exam, there is no way in heaven you can become a lawyer in Canada (and most of the US).
Some countries and some states have less strict rules on who can practice law, so if you MUST practice law for a living, try to move to one of these areas. However, even the most lax areas require at LEAST a bachelor's degree.
So basically, to answer your question, no, you cannot become a lawyer by doing a law clerk program. Try going to a college first then transferring to a university.
Question: Is there a difference between a Law Clerk and a Paralegal? If so then what?
Answer: A law clerk is usually a person going to law school, or recently completed it who assists a judge in court and helps write decisions and briefs and other work. A paralegal is a professionally trained person most usually without a law degree, who works along with attorneys and provides support work and assistance, mainly being a "go-fer" person (I was one for 20 years). New attorneys are often hired as paralegals when they first work for a law firm until they pass their bar exam.
Question: What kind of writing sample does a law firm want when applying for a job as a law clerk/internship?
Answer: If you are working on your undergraduate degree, a good writing sample would be an English paper you wrote.
If you are working on your law degree, a good writing sample would be a brief or sometype of 5-10 pages document that you received high marks on.
Question: what´s a law clerk and a legal eagle? Some times I see these ads in the new paper or in the web, but what actually this people do? What’s there job?
Answer: A law clerk is a person who assists a judge in researching issues before the court and in writing opinions.
A legal eagle is a lawyer, one whose profession is to conduct lawsuits for clients or to advise as to legal rights and obligations in other matters.
Question: What is the average pay , hourly, working at a law firm as a filing clerk and/or an assistant? What is the average pay , hourly, working at a law firm as a filing clerk and/or an assistant?
Answer: it depends on the firm and the city. and for the people above who say 17, or 18-25 per hour, they are on crack. filing clerks and assistants are on the lower end of the law office totem pole.
Question: How much money do law clerks make per hour or year? I am kinda stuck between 2 career paths. I did have my mind set on dental hygiene but that program is more competative than law clerk. I just want to know which one i should go to and which one has better pay?
Answer: $12 and hour and about $24,000 per year. You are right about the dental hygiene program. You make bank but it's competitive. Usually only the young hot women succeed in that field.
Question: why must an opinon letter be signed by an attorney and not a paralegal or law clerk?
Answer: Hello TiffanyL:
The short answer is simply "authority" . . . an attorney has superior education and place in the light of law and are bound to a certain charter of "voice" that is deemed to be dependable over and above the paralegal or law clerk.
Education and expertise ~ the attorney holds the trump card there. It depends upon the document being signed as well. The person/situation that is asking for the signature may have requested that it be signed by a lawyer/barrister/solicitor vs. a court clerk type.
Be well
Question: Can you still be a judicial law clerk even after you passed the bar exam?
Answer: Yes, they aren't going to fire you just because you now have your degree and made the final step to become an attorney I would start applying for jobs in law firms as a junior atty
Question: I want to purcue in becoming a Law Clerk, Any thoughts of why I should or should not.? Im having a career change from being a systems analyst
Answer: Go for it? Law clerks are not "career" positions, they are stepping stones. Once you graduate law school (or, for lower courts like family courts, while you are in law school), you can blast your resume out to federal/state judges who are seeking clerks. You work hard for moderate pay BUT if you are looking to be a trial lawyer or a judge, it's excellent experience.
