Question: When it comes to hiring for bilingual positions, does anyone know...? How often native Spanish speakers who learned English are hired over native English speakers fluent in Spanish?
Where I work, I see a lot of bilingual-necessary people hired, and they have always been native Spanish speakers. I wonder if that is the norm.
Answer: It is a matter of supply and demand. There are many more native Spanish speakers who know English than Americans who know Spanish. When it comes to languages, Americans are very parochial, and tend to be monolingual. It is unfortunate that our schools do such a poor job of promoting language education. It puts us at a disadvantage throughout the world.
Question: What is your position on bilingual education in the classrooms and why? What is your position on bilingual education in the classrooms and why?
And What are the Pros And Cons
The question is more directed in the situations where the teachers and the students can talk in their native language and learn the subject. What are the pros and cons of this type of situations and does it impede a child from learning the primary language of the country(in this case the USA)
Answer: I'm against. Because it's a disincentive for learning the unofficial national language, it's more costly and it's divisive. In an attempt to help I believe it will hurt the individuals as they will be severely limited in job prospects if they resist learning the national language, which many will do. However, I wouldn't object to having a tax supported English class.
Question: executive recruiters for top level bilingual management positions charges or bills the company that hires yo?
Answer: Yes. They usually get a % of your annual salary. If you leave prior to your 1 yr anniversary, hiring company gets a refund.
Question: Why do Bilingual jobs pay more than only English positions ? What if a person can't learn a second language! ?
Answer: what if a person can't learn to be a doctor does that mean they should still receive the pay? You get paid for your knowledge
Question: Why positions that require bilingual skills(English/Spanish) pay such low salaries?
Answer: Since Spanish is the most spoken language in the world, employers generally won't have a hard time finding a suitable candidate. Thus increasing competition between candidates, and employers will generally employed the candidate that is willing work for less salary.

Question: Is this an okay answer for an interview--My weakness is I am a bilingual and lack of experience!!!? I am 22 years old with a Master degree. I have applied for competitive positions. If an interviewer asked about my weakness:
Is it okay to say:
1.) I am a bilingual. Obviously, I speak English with an accent.
2.) I don't have much work experiences. I am only 22 years. Obviously, I cannot compare my work experiences with a 40 years old.
I may address that I am a hard worker who motivate and willing to learn new tasks to get job done efficiently.
Answer: Bilingual business jobs are actually a recession proof industry. What you ought to do is find companies that do business in the United States but are based in country that speaks your 2nd language. If you cannot find a "job posting" on the internet - do not fret. You need to contact these companies directly in their native language.
For example: While visiting Mazatlan Mexico I found an English school. I went to the front office and asked about teaching English since I'm a teacher in California. They offered me a job on the spot. Now, since they did not do business with America, they were not making American dollars. They could only offer me the "live like a king" and live here opportunity.
Question: Job in the states for a creative bilingual MBA from Russia? hey,
i got my MBA in the states a year ago, and then returned to Russia (that's the homeland). I've been applying to companies in the states via monster.com and other jobsearch sites, but what usually happens is that the company likes my resume, education, work experiences and everything else, but they don't really want to get into all the paperworks when hiring someone from another country. I have great education and diversified background with ton's of skills that can be used to benefit an organization, most important i have a desire to do so, all is left to do is to find a company that will stand out and do such a brave action :) Seriously, do you, guys, know of any company that matches my search? As i said i have an MBA (bilingual: russian, english), so I'm looking fo management positions, also interested in event planning, entertainment, hospitality, someting with creativity! I'm not a usual MBA - i'm a creative one :)
Thanks in advance!
Answer: 1. Apply for positions in companies that DO hire foreigners. First of all these will be financial services (investment banks) and consulting companies. I don't know much about manufacturing companies.
2. Another tip - if they don't want to fly you in just for the interview, maybe they have a subsidiary/branch in Russia and its HR people can interview you for the first round at least (I did a similar trick myself a while ago). Or tell them you'll be in the States and would like to talk to them. If you manage to combine few interviews in the same geographic area, it might be worth the trip (I assume that getting a visitor's visa won't be a problem).
3. Get a job with McKinsey in Russia. As far as I know after two years you can transfer to any other McKinsey office (after McKinsey everybody will hire you anyway!). Probably the same is true for other consultancies and big investment banks (CSFB et al) operating in Russia.
4. Get a job with a Russian company which expands business to the U.S. (Lukoil, Gazprom, Renaissance Capital etc.)
5. Does your school have a good alumni network? Try to find people from your school already working for companies you're interested in.
Question: What exactly do medical transcriptionists do? I have a B.A. in Spanish and I'm trying to find a job in which I can utilize my language skills. I just saw an ad for a bilingual transcriptionist position. However, I was wondering what exactly medical transcriptionists do. Could someone with my educational background get a position like that?
Answer: Nine out of ten times doctors will record their findings (diagnosis, treatment plans etc) on a recording system by litterally talking into a microphone. All this will have to be put on file. That is where the transcriptionists come in. They listen to the doctors recordings and type up reports so it can be read by anyone directly involved in the care of the patient. And yes you can get a position like that. Usually they require good typing skills and also knowledge of medical terminology would help. Also there are educational programs that will get you certified in transcription within 3 months. PS I once had a transcriptionist job and I was my typing nor my medical knowledge was that great, so there is hope! Good luck
Question: Based on bilingual education, where do you stand on the issue of providing instruction.....? Based on bilingual education, where do you stand on the issue of providing instruction in the native language for students or immersing them in the regular classroom? Do you think it's best to teach students in their own language or is it best to include them in the regular classroom and let them overcome their language barrier on their own? Explain your reasons for your position.
Answer: I think all instruction should be bilingual (or even trilingual) ... students who receive instruction through only their vernacular medium are at a distinct disadvantage when it comes to communicating outside of their society as a whole. I'm not saying that it is impossible for them to communicate effectively; there will always be those exceptional cases that overcome the communication barrier, but they certainly are at a disadvantage.
There is also the social aspect to it ... people who are brought up learning only through their native language, tend to socialize only with their peers (obviously) and this kind of fosters ignorance and sometimes antagonism towards others. Multilingual education on the other hand exposes students to different perspectives and makes them well-rounded individuals and also provides them with better employment opportunities (IMHO).
