Question: How would one find a government office job in Canada? Just wondering if anyone knows how people manage to get jobs in ministry offices in Canada. i.e. front desk clerks at places like the ministry of foreign affairs in passport offices, or ministry of health in offices where people go to apply for health cards, stuff like that. Also, would jobs like that require you to be bilingual, even in a city that barely has any French-speaking people?
Answer: The link below is to the federal government job listings site. You could also submit your resumé to the appropriate department and it may be kept on file for a certain period of time.
There is no requirement for all federal employees to be bilingual, but if you are it can be an asset. The need for bilingual staff is not the same in all parts of the country.

Answer: You are talented. This resume is too wordy.
Here are a few thoughts.
"from which I can evolve into a career" isn't what you want to say, unless you are going to turn into a career, rather than have one.
Try:
To obtain a position with career potential as a buyer or visual merchandiser in the fashion industry.
You don't list the school you attend (who cares which campus?)
Skills:
Fluent Spanish Speaker
(drop the typing unless you want to be a typist)
Software experience includes: Microsoft Office, Quickbooks, ACT, Photoshop
Job descriptions: Tighten up the language
September 2001 - May 2002
Bilingual Clerk/Aide in [WHAT PLACE? YOU SHOULD LIST IT - WHAT IS ARD - no one will know] Houston, TX
Responsibilities include: preparation of graphics materials for meetings and reports (if that is accurate from your description), data entry into SASI, general office tasks, translation assistance for clients and staff, and meeting preparation for WHATEVER ARDs are.
Make sure I don't lead you to say anything untrue. More verbs, fewer nouns. Stress the visual arts experience
Move the course list off the resume (highlight it only) and attach a transcript if necessary. No reason not to list core classes if relevant.
What's your GPA and why isn't it on here?
I hope this helps

Question: Wal-Mart cannot hire a non bilingual person.? I've applied there 3 times in the last couple of years and no response yet. If you were to walk into any Walmart right now and simply ask a clerk a simple question on where something is located, the majority will answer you in spanish! I had a woman say to me the other day that "I don't now any english but wait a minute and I'll get someone for you" She spoke english better than I could. That's just pure disrespectful towards me and laziness on her part to use spanish as her first langauge here in America. I know that I will probably get a lot of name calling from people pinning me as a racist. That is not the case. Also please, no race cards but I would just like to know why I have to learn spanish in a country that's first language is english before I can be employed with a place like that? Please, understand I mean no disrespect towards anyone! Thank You!
Answer: Actually, The US does not have an official language. But to me, it does seem that English is the primary language, and everyone else who ever moved here had to learn it. I don't think you're being racist. I think in a country where the primary language is English, anyone should at least attempt to learn the language, especially if they're going to have a job and live there, be it Mexcan, French, or anything else, as I think most people would do if they planned to get a job in another country where another language was spoken.
Question: Interviewing for a Deputy Clerk Class Series on Tuesday...? I applied for the position about a month ago & I just got called to interview on Tuesday. I'm wondering if anyone knows this position & what interview questions should I be prepared for. This position is within the City's Justice Court. I did not have to test to apply, but they did advise me that I will be tested on my typing skills and my administrative skills the same day of the interview. The only part I'm nervous about is the 3 person interview panel. I'm not experienced within the court system, but I think I could get by... I'm also currently taking a court interpreting course that's helping a bit with my legal terminology (I'm also bilingual), but I don't know if that will be sufficient... any advise on how to get prepared will help! Thanks!!
Answer: Good luck. Can you read any good books about court terminology.
Here are a few:
1. Dismissal - need to find out whether it will be with or without prejudice;
2. Motion granted;
3. Clerk to give notice (that means you, if you get the job);
I also found this glossary of court terms (VA):
http://www.courts.state.va.us/glossary_of_court_terms.html
and
AZ:
http://www.clerkofcourt.maricopa.gov/glossary.asp
and
Denver (I assume Colorado):
http://www.denvergov.org/redirect_404/tabid/383426/Default.aspx
and
NY:
http://www.courts.state.ny.us/lawlibraries/glossary.shtml
Since I don't know what state you are in, I can't find one specifically for your state. But this should be helpful.
FYI - The trial de novo term as used in California also means when the parties have had a non-binding, judicial arbitration and one party is not satisifed with the arbitrator's decision. The party then files a "Request for Trial De Novo" with the court.
Question: Would you hire me? If you were an employer, would you hire me with a resume like this? I appreciate any feedback.

Answer: Have you considered doing home parties? They're a lot of fun, you work at home most of the time, but still get to get out and interact with people-- important for moms! I know many of them have low start up costs and some have ways for you to earn your starter kit for free.
I wanted to be a work at home mom, so I explored a lot of options, decided I wanted to do home parties, and chose Passion Parties. For me it was a great choice, and I haven't looked back (been doing them for 2 years!). You can start for as little as $100 and can set your own schedule. I also have ways for people to earn their kit for free. We have mostly female consultants, but have a growing number of male consultants as well.
I like it because, yes, it is a MLM company, but I was making great money even before I started building a team. You don't have to recruit at all if you don't want to. I earn 40% profit on my sales, and even more in cash sales bonuses. I also like that I don't have to wait for a check, I get my profit immediately. I am still able to raise my daughter and don't have to worry about sick days, day care, or time off for appointments or maternity leave (I'm currently expecting #2!) and that eases a lot of stress.
Even if this isn't the right plan for you, there are SO many different companies out there, you can probably find one that suits you, your interests, and your lifestyle. Just make sure to do a lot of research before you give ANYONE your time or money!
Good luck!

Answer: I would use different titles for the work you have done. "Time Keeper" and "Sample Collector". It needs to be more professional..project engineer, cost engineer, construction administrator, assistant superintendent.
I would take out the personal protection. Anyone in construction knows PPE comes with the territory. When you say project schedule 6 do you mean primavera 6? I would seperate your skills between: computer, education, and additional training. Take out "Excel spreadsheets calculation"...just say Microsoft excel. Or summarize and just say proficient in microsoft business appllications (word, excel, powerpoint..)
Question: The Hiring Process? So I like posted this notice for an admistrative clerk to work in my office. How 'bout this doberman pincher comes and states he wants to apply for the job. What!?!?!? I don't need a dog I have this security system to watchdog my offices. The doberman pressured me to give him the opportunity that he can fulfil those duties. So I thought of the hardest tasks I could think of.
First was to type this document under 2 minutes. I blinked my eyes and low and behold this dog has finished that project.
2nd was to make some copies using this antiquated copier machine, so that meant he would have to duplex the copies manually, collate manually and staple. I went to use the restroom and ole dawg had finished that task.
Okay it seemed I was outdone. Whatever could I do to trip this dog up so I won't have to hire him.
I got it
3rd task- I need someone that is bilingual.
His response: "Meow"
Answer: good one :)

Question: Is there something wrong with my resume? In the past month, I have sent out about 80 resumes. Despite all this effort, I have only received one request for an interview. I'm wondering if there is anything I can improve on my resume that may help me stand out to prospective employers. Pasted below are the "objective", "experience", "education", and "skills" portions of my resume. Please keep in mind that I am straight out of school and fairly young, which is why I do not have much experience listed. In addition, the gap in my employment between last June and now can be explained by some personal family issues, moving 500 miles across the state, and getting married. If anyone is wiling to take a look and give me some constructive criticism, it would be greatly appreciated.

Answer: first: you've got good experience and are quite "job worthy" for the type of position you appear to be applying for.
it feels a bit too informal. don't just say "i have many specialised skills" actually list all of them. you need to use less paragraphs. have it set up with headings, sub headings then discuss it in point form eg:
Employment
* 05/01-11/01 worked at xxx as a ???. duties were ***, ***,
* (you get the idea)
do the same with skills
keep it SHORT and straight to the point. no one wants to read too much
good luck!!!

2nd: The resume looks good although I would recommend restructuring the Educational part of your resume, it seems very bunched and crowded.
Question: Should I quit my job? I'm a court clerk.I help people translate spanish to english.But,Lately my medication has made me not like ppl or the fact.I'm not a people person..I called in work today and said I was sick..so I could reflect on what I should do? I'm thinking of leaving IA and head to my home in mexico and be rent free/what should I do?
The thing is I have to kick my cousins out my HOUSE since,I'm renting it to them and there paying my property tax and they help run the ranch with the animals and other crap.So,that is where it gets complicated and I need help and is driving me nuts..I don't want my cousins to hate me..But my heart isn't here no more and is like 15 ppl living in my home in mexico..But I paid for it and I let them live there for 2 yrs so,is there time up or should I suck it up and look for a new bilingual job?
wtf
should I do? any suggestions.
Answer: You could just be in burn out mode or in a rut. In this WORLD economy I would not leave any job. It also sounds like things would not be any more fulfilling if you do head for free rent + misery. Maybe you could try some things to do outside of work that you really like. It would give you something to look forward to throughout the day. Suggestions: Sports (lady's kickball is starting!), yoga (amazing stress reliever), book club, dating, weekly happy hour with friends, weekly TV must sees (I used to plan my week around Prison Break, Fringe, Desperate Housewives, ...), Cook a favorite lunch and take it to work (you can look forward to midday)....
We spend so much of our day at work that we forget that we used to have a life. Get your life back, girl ; )
Good luck
