Question: Would a guy in his 40's have trouble getting hired as an administrative assistant? I am between jobs and having trouble getting hired in my profession (paralegal). I am a guy, in my late 40's and have a good grasp of various computer programs like Word, Excel, Access and Outlook Express. Would it be difficult for me to get work through a temp agency as an administrative assistant? I haven't been able to get jobs through legal recruitment agencies for legal temp work.
Answer: I would recommend calling up some local temp agencies in your area. Then set up an appt. You usually need to take in your resume, showing details of background and experience.
They will probably give you some tests to figure out your typing speed, accuracy, etc.

Question: How many of you know the difference between Administrative Assistants and secretaries? There is a huge difference in responsibilities and often times pay unless you work for a non profit organization then the pay for an admin may only slightly differ from that of a secretary.
A secretary answers phones, files, types, makes copies and may make travel arrangements has general Micrososft skills MS word and Excel and outlook . An Admin does all of the above with minimal if any supervision, coordinates office information, does research, creates documents, spreadsheets, presentations and is efficient in the MS Acess, Excel, Powerpoint and Project and handles all office duties such as supervising and training some temp or new employees, handling confidential documents and learning department tasks in order to assist in the field of work of the company that they work for. Supplies, the budget, recruitment, requesting maintenance, scheduling repairs we do it all!!!!!!!!!!!
